We, as the Designer Interviews ("DI") had the distinct pleasure and opportunity to interview award-winning, most creative and innovative Parham Elahi Doust ("PED").
Parham is a designer that studied architecture and anthropology and use these principles as a background for his designs. He translates the user's voice into product requirements. His studio and the team are focused on human-centered design. He thinks that industry’s finance programs leads us to be a extremism consumer and people are emotionally far from products that they are living with them. The human-centered design method could bring back our emotional bounding with the products. We create a narrative behind everything

DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
PED : making something from nothing is a passion that can lead you to be a designer
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
PED : MODAM section in a human-center design studio that focused on emotional relations between users and the products. We think that the economical aspect of modern industry made us be a consumer. Consumers are full of diversity. We think about emotional bonding with our daily use products.
DI: What is "design" for you?
PED : Design means to answer, answer to the needs
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
PED : I like to answer every question that appears in my way
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
PED : Hypnoss floor lamp is lighting made from scarped Vespas found in the repair shops. I bring them back to life in another serving form. As they lit up our way home now they can light up our home
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
PED : I designed a showcase display for a pet food company
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
PED : I love material's touch feeling. the coldness of steel, the warmness of wood, and the sharpness of colors on everything
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
PED : When I find the first real question about the projects
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
PED : I focus on the user experience during design, I always imagine the design on the use position and how people think/feel/act with them, It is my unit.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
PED : I have a rule, I will continue designing until I feel an increasing heartbeat or excitement about the result
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
PED : Of course, it is an exciting moment when you see your design in real life
DI: What makes a design successful?
PED : good feedback
DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
PED : Its character, if it is designed for its function you need to judge it in this way and so many other reasons
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
PED : A designer could help the improvement procedure
DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
PED : Design is the future, you cannot predict its future because it is the future
DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
PED : I haven't had an exhibition before but I think the next one is my design in the A'design award exhibition 2021
DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
PED : It depends on the design's questions. some answers are from my scattered studies but I always dive into the images of the keyword that I write about each project
DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
PED : Emotional bonding with the products. I like to see the people selecting my design because they got different feelings in their interaction with them.
DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
PED : I live in Tehran, Iran. As living in an underdeveloped country you always face too many unanswered questions and uncertain problems that you should find your answer to it. It can develop your will to find the best answers for yourself and others if you could switch your viewing angle.
DI: How do you work with companies?
PED : First I will read their documents about the project then I think about the whole thing from first, the reason th
DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
PED : I think they should select a designer by the designer aspect and let him/her think on their side. They should see the designer on the same side.
DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?
PED : I always use A5 papers and write down everything that comes to my mind on them and show their connections and add details to them in the design process
DI: Can you describe a day in your life?
PED : Mostly I live over the night, I need my solitude to focus on subjects. Over the night you can feel free from ordinary daily communications and social life.
DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?
PED : As I said the golden rule is to continue designing until you feel your heartbeat
DI: What skills are most important for a designer?
PED : Changing view angle and perspective, a designer should look at the subject from many different aspects
DI: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
PED : I develop my design myself but at some checkpoints, I ask my friends (designers and non-designers) to give me a feedback on them
