Designer Interview of Abhishek Chitranshi:
DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
AC : Since my childhood I loved to create things which solve my need. Also, I used to sketch and paint lot. later, I decided to do the graduation in a field where I may continue my passion and learn new design processes and I found architecture best. In second year of my graduation I decided to explore the field of designs and polish my skills and I did master in design from IIT Bombay. I always wanted a profession where I can create and design.
DI: What is "design" for you?
AC : When a spider creates its web to live – its perfection is design. Design and Innovation are the faces of a coin. If innovation is need, then design covers all those aspects which keep enhancing the experience and the quality.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
AC : Nothing specific but love the screen interface (interaction) and product interface (industrial) in the field of technology, high-tech gadgets.
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
AC : There are many. It’s difficult to point out one.
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
AC : I had designed a building automation controller interface.
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
AC : End User Need, Psychology, Usage , Behavior and Budget.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
AC : I feel like it’s my buddy. I care it and it will care all.
DI: What makes a design successful?
AC : Accessible when it is needed most, simple, natural, multifunctional and economical.
DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
AC : Notice/Sense each element that it is good or bad based on the need of its presence supporting design aspects like usage, simplicity, accessibility, aesthetic, affordability, ergonomics and intuitiveness.
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
AC : Though everything happening around is somehow natural. The designer’s responsibility is to introduce unknown obviousness and keep setting the definition - what is natural.
DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
AC : It may sound philosophical but the 'Design' is evolving since earth/like anything on earth. I believe the 'Realization of Design' field is happening. The more realization is more attention towards future.
DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
AC : It was in IIT Bombay design degree show in 2006.
DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
AC : I live in Bangalore India. May be the awareness of design in India bit less if compare with countries like US, UK or Japan.
DI: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
AC : Cell phone, nail cutter, water bottle, Tablet and clip on for my glasses.
DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?
AC : Observe each possible element and keep simplicity
