Designer Interview of Anushrii Jaain:

DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?

AJ : I always was interested in fine arts. From there developed a keen interest in painting, colors which led to studying interior designing. Now there is nothing else i would do expect being a designer.

DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?

AJ : THE ART OBJEKT studio undertakes design and execution of interior related projects anything from space planning, designing, renovation etc of homes, residences, corporate offices, lounges, hotels and resorts.

DI: What is "design" for you?

AJ : Design for me is a way to live life.

DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?

AJ : I love to design works that are challenging and explore new materials.

DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?

AJ : It was a residence interior project.

DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?

AJ : logs of wood esp teak.

DI: When do you feel the most creative?

AJ : when i am amidst nature or in a city full of art music and culture. Like FIRENZE.

DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?

AJ : originality, comfort, low maintenance and value for money.

DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?

AJ : i feel positive, elated and content.

DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?

AJ : exhilarated.

DI: What makes a design successful?

AJ : Realization of the design from its conception stage to its final product as the way it was thought and designed.

DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?

AJ : creativity and originality.

DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?

AJ : Designers should be extremely responsible towards earth in choosing the kind of materials for their products confining more to eco-friendly materials or recyclable materials.

DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?

AJ : My last exhibition was in october-november 2012 in chennai, India. I would most likely want to hold my next exhibition in the end of this year.

DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?

AJ : I get inspired by things around me. Nature, sea, birds, nest, architecture, paintings, sculpture. Anything and everything.

DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?

AJ : I don't have a particular style. I am eclectic by nature and hence i try to incorporate my nature to my designs. Main characteristics of my designs would be originality, looks, form and function and comfort.

DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?

AJ : I am from India. Yes, definitely cultural heritage affects my design a lot. The materials used, the production technology, labor all affect the design process.

DI: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?

AJ : I would recommend young designers to not look for inspiration from other designers work. Explore, travel to other countries, click pictures of just about anything that they love and develop that into a new original design.

DI: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?

AJ : I don't really see negatives except that being a designer means thinking 24/7 non-stop. Positives are endless, most important being it stimulates the brain.

DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?

AJ : Golden rule in design for me is it should speak out loud and say "This is me. This is how i want to be." Every design should have a story behind it to be told.

DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?

AJ : I love designing, its not just my passion but my life. So i don't take it as time consuming because that's the thing i live for.

DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?

AJ : Sometimes weeks and sometimes months.

DI: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?

AJ : What kind of stuffs do you design?

DI: What was your most important job experience?

AJ : Associate interior designer.

DI: Who are some of your clients?

AJ : elite consumers.

DI: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?

AJ : Anything that is challenging and stimulates my mind.

DI: What are your future plans? What is next for you?

AJ : Another furniture exhibition in this year. And completion of my ongoing interior projects.

DI: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?

AJ : I design myself but the execution is done by my set of carpenters.
