We, as the Designer Interviews ("DI") had the distinct pleasure and opportunity to interview award-winning, most creative and innovative Alexandre Caldas ("AC").
I`m Alexandre Caldas and i`m relevant like everyone else. Regard the importance , it`s better than being famous. To be important is to stay inside people, not by imposition but because they care about us or our work. As for everything else, I do what I love and leave the evaluation for people in general, I don`t think that is wise the self evaluation.

Designer Interview of Alexandre Caldas:
DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
AC : To be honest, since I was a kid I lived amoung work shops and raw materials and probably because of that I always thought a Designer without knowing it. When you spend most of your time amoung materials without phones, ipads, computers, etc (1970s / 80s), we end up spending most of the time figuring out what to do, practicing the cult of leisure, finding out how to make real what we just imagined
DI: What is "design" for you?
AC : I think we already have a lot of definitions about Design . In some ways it appears well defined and in others very with abstract. For me it means freedom , specialy from dogmas and it can be sparked in many diferent ways . If It helps people and they like it , I`m good with that !
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
AC : Furniture
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
AC : It was a sk8board ... and it was for me .
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
AC : amoung materials ... if it`s furniture , i love to work with separate parts , components and play with them .
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
AC : aesthetics and functionality
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
AC : freedom .
DI: What makes a design successful?
AC : again , If It helps people and they like it ... i think it will have a great chance to be a winner
DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
AC : if it has any meaning or if it`s insignificant. I Always remember the Citrus-squeezer , it might not work weel for the porpouse it was designed , but is beautifull and starts a good conversation about design ... so it has a meanig . I think it`s great .
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
AC : Giant , we are one of the front line in this issue , because we have the power to choose materials and solutions and raise awareness in consumers, customers and partners to make the shift in this current paradigm . we need good engineers and conscious designers.
DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
AC : have to be responsible and it will be always a story telling ... with happy ending .
