We, as the Designer Interviews ("DI") had the distinct pleasure and opportunity to interview award-winning, most creative and innovative Alessandro Marchelli ("AM").
Consultant in the public and private fields and specialized in Brand Vision, Concept Design, Design Development for HOME + SPA & HOTEL. DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
AM : Feel the emotion to convey particular feelings, regardless of the "like" or "do not like", but the people watching in amazement innovation

DI: What is "design" for you?

DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?

DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?

DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?

DI: When do you feel the most creative?
AM : Convinced that creativity has no periods, no times. I could say that I feel creative 24/7, of course keeping in mind that not all the things that a designer thought to be materially feasible; but the great thing about this job is that too. Going beyond the imagination ...
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
AM : Studying and striving for perfection are the essential requirements of the philosophy of the company, the base to find innovative solutions and create spaces that with their uniqueness and charm can give shape to the customer's passions, by modeling the environment with inventiveness.Is aware of the need to highlight the potential of every project to provide the greatest livability together with a new and customized aesthetic quality.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
AM : When you have a blank sheet of paper in front of the eyes is waiting . When you begin to slowly dispose of lines, curves, perhaps not a logical but a little later you know that everything will turn into something amazing for you , then comes the euphoria, the joy of being on the right path . When you start the white paper notes with the image just before you were only in the mind, with colors, with lineee , with curves, then it means that now the worst is over and now just " make it happen " materially and only then happiness is also plasma in a mixture of feelings by the wonderful scents that intoxicate as the " sirens of Ulysses" , but that as a good commander does not leave you attract, but deaf to these sounds go to the next exciting adventure yet with more enthusiasm.

AM : I can not judge whether a project is good or bad , I can only evaluate if it falls into my design philosophy
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
AM : Using their emotions and not be carried away from the stereotypes

DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
AM : Everything that revolves around me , the curiosity of learning and knowing , the desire to turn a dream into reality.
DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
AM : I create environments, products, situations, emotions, sometimes with challenging spirit and in contrast to what the outside world, but not for the taste of contrast, but to generate new sensations and emotional suggestions that remain over time. In my work, interior, contract, industrial, exhibit and graphic / communication receives "the apology sensory" that accompanies my every gesture in a design process that my hand and my mind want to carry in heart, in eyes, in minds of the people who live and use my projects. A new point of view, focused on the world of sense, free from "stakes" traditional, calibrated and gestures aimed at simplifying "the exaltation of feelings." Characterized by rounded shapes and enveloping my design model, plasma every single shape, continually seeking the wonder in the modern world with the merger between wonder and convenience.
DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
AM : Live in Italy, Piedmont, in the lower Monferrato, Unesco Heritage area. We are all children of the culture where we are born, but I think we must develop our own design guidelines if we want to create something new and innovative.Here we perceive the routine, to maintain a style now consolidated over time, but we should reverse the route, imagine giving new lifeblood and create beauty
DI: How do you work with companies?
AM : Total synergy with companies now consolidated with my studio.I listen to their proposals on every type of project, and then together we evaluate the best solutions
DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
AM : Trust, the sense of creating a product that has a significant sales force, but at the same time a production development in total harmony with the company
DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?
AM : AM+D and his dynamic team create environments, situations and moods at times provocatively inspired in contrast with the outside world, not for the sake of the inverse, but in order to induce new long lasting sensations and emotions.In all his work, whether design (interior, contract, industrial, exhibit), graphics or communication, the “sensory apology” is clearly evident.It is a design concept which AM wishes to bring to people’s heart, sight and mind through the actual drawing and the idea behind it.AM+D introduces a new perspective focusing on the senses , free from traditional “limits”, calculated to simplify gestures and aimed at “enhancing sensations”. DI: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
AM : Objects that I have designed in recent years for various companies, from the "Airblow" lamps, to the large "Manlike" vases, the "Magnus A" sofa, the large "The Cove" bed and the "Double Love" bathtub
DI: Can you describe a day in your life?
AM : Being in charge of a team of architecture and interior design means always getting involved and every day we accept new challenges both on work in progress and on new projects. In the morning we meet for a briefing, then with their duties we devote ourselves to development, who in the pipeline, who in the laboratory and who works the details, executive, until you get to the evening where you are and you tell the story day to find solutions and new ideas for the next day to be tackled with great enthusiasm
DI: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
AM : Two Grand Masters of Design and ' Contemporary Architecture said ;Oscar Niemeyer : "It is not the right angle that attracts me , nor the straight line, hard and inflexible , created by man. What attracts me is the free and sensual curve . Curve that meeting in the mountains and rivers of my country , in the clouds of heaven , in the waves of the sea, in the body of the favorite woman . is made of curves throughout the universe. curved universe of Einstein . "Ettore Sottsass : " Create design and make architecture also means designing a place where , at sunset , two friends sitting on the ground are told , slowly , the stories of their lives ." This for me is an absolute creative energy .
DI: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
AM : Working every single day to create emotions, overcome difficulties with the imagination and then translate it into reality. A stimulating job from every point of view.The bureaucratic aspects instead are those practices that create negativity, long administrative time with consequent delay in processing
DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?
AM : Translating imagination into reality: this is our art and our way of thinking
DI: What skills are most important for a designer?
AM : Have the strength and knowledge to dare ..."When the winds of change blow, some people build walls and others build windmills". Zen proverb
DI: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
AM : Everything that revolves around desgin and interior architecture.Solid modeling programs, rendering programs and augmented reality ... fantasy, and above all the pencil that develops the idea spanned on a piece of paper wherever you are
DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
AM : Any type of project requires time, dedication, commitment.You start with the idea, looking for a guideline and then discussing, changing, returning, sometimes, on the initial idea, changing, exchanging opinions to find the right balance of idea and reality, up to get to the realization of the prototype and then make the latest changes
DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
AM : Each project has its own time, it can not be calculated a priori.There are objects that are born in a completely random and become fast, others require much more processing, to study in detail every single component
DI: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
AM : That of realizing an object or a space that emotion me
DI: What was your most important job experience?
AM : Each project has its own peculiarity, and every work of great satisfaction if done with commitment and a lot of work.There are many works I'm proud of, but maybe those that gave me something more were "Casa Dova" and "Tower House" where among other things they won an award in the 'A' Design Award.Complex works of great commitment to design and production, but extremely stimulating emotions and sensations.Restructuring in a historical center, with numerous constraints, difficulties on the existing structure, which then developed into important scenic works, working on light and creations, modeled exclusively for that environment, with a miscellanea of workers incredible. Coming to obtain numerous awards and prizes, with articles in international magazines.
DI: Who are some of your clients?
AM : Italian and foreign companies in terms of product design, private customers for the creation of domestic spaces, hotels, contract, retail, entertainment venues, SPA and wellness and pool
DI: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
AM : The design has no limits and so I dedicate myself every time with all the effort possible to create works that can remain over time, can create amazement and remain in the eyes of people who rely on my creativity
DI: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
AM : Among other works in the design phase both, in home, and in contract and retail, we are working on a new design concept designed for an Italian company, which will soon be presented to the international press.A new line of bar counters, pastry shops, ice cream parlors for HoReCa and for Food, conceived, designed and modeled to give new life to innovative, hi-tec and multifunctional spaces for people in step with the times.
DI: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
AM : We are a team of people, each with their own characteristics.Designers, Interior Architects, Architects, Engineers, Surveyors and Graphs
DI: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
AM : A multi-sensory villa under construction.A project to which we have dedicated a lot of time, to find a resolution to various problems.In the summer of 2018 "Villa Elysium" will see the new work signed by Alessandro Marchelli.A space of about 250.00 square meters on two floors above ground.A futuristic sensory narration in a Liberty style villa, keeping all the historical features of the time outward, restoring manual and craftsmanship with frames, scuretti, high-reliefs, ornaments and then transforming itself into a place outside traditional, emotional and innovative.A "fairy" world, elegant and sensual.Spaces, traces, light and objects that are shaped at each step, which open up to the uncommon future, changing perspective and vision at every glance.A "fil-rouge" of signs, of unpredictability, of three-dimensional sensations suspended in the void of a perfect hemisphere ... the world of Villa Elysium
