MS : My passion for design came from my father. He taught me that we must always be curious about how things are made and built and he gave me the passion for knowing how to design what was in mind. Then of course the university, the Politecnico di Milano, gave me all the tools I needed for this job.
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
MS : MrSmith Studio is a Milan based design studio active since 2005.The holistic approach to the project based on the “design thinking” method allows the Studio to thrive in all ventures, satisfying the innovation needs of clients from a variety of fields. The Studio members’ different backgrounds and skills contributed to build a team able to face with enthusiasm and different points of view every new project.Curiosity, elegance, meaning and approachability are elements of the synthetic design process to which the Studio is committed and appreciated for.The Studio’s mission is to empathize with the client, motivate it and strengthen its brand identity.Since its early days MrSmith Studio deals with industrial, furniture, lighting, packaging and graphic design.

DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
MS : I focus on the right balancing of all aspects of design.

DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
MS : The "reason why" of the concept.

MS : Main responsibility of designers for society and environment is to let customers focus on society and environment issues. we can not do it for them, but we can help them to think about it.
DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
MS : This is a too general question.

DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
MS : I may say that my stile is clean, fresh and up to date.Clean means that there is nothing more than what is really needed.Fresh means that my projects are optimistic and with a clear placement.Up-to-date means that all of my projects are designed considering recent materials and technologies.
DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
MS : I live in Milan, hometown of the Italian Design and for sure this background has affected my designs.
DI: How do you work with companies?
MS : I always try to establish a good connection with companies I'm working with in order to collaborate on multiple layers.
DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
MS : The more information a company is going to share with a designer, the more the project will be a success. So the topic is not how to select a good designer, but how to create a good connection with a designer.
