We, as the Designer Interviews ("DI") had the distinct pleasure and opportunity to interview award-winning, most creative and innovative GIACINTO FABA ("GF").
Giacinto Faba is a professional architect with over twenty years experience, from architecture and urban design to product design and interior design. From a young age he wanted to be intimately involved with nature and the territory, and has always worked to give a design project a continuity with the context so that it is as integrated as possible with nature. His style is characterized by a continuous research for natural materials and in his works there is a continuum derived from different cultures. The search for stimulating adventures to grow professionally and to find new frontiers is the objective of his art.

Designer Interview of GIACINTO FABA:
DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
GF : From an early age (13 years) I realized my design project on a small motor boat. In this I was helped by my father's work as a carpenter. I have always attended artisans in the field of construction and industrial design. The fact that I became a designer is a logical consequence of my past life and my nature.
DI: What is "design" for you?
GF : Design means project and everything that goes with it.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
GF : I like working on residential and tourist accommodation.
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
GF : My favorite design is the Arco lamp by Achille Castiglioni.
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
GF : The first thing I designed for a company was the showroom of the Stefanel SPA company in Pescara, a leading franchising company, in 1995
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
GF : My favorite materials are wood, stone, steel and glass.
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
GF : I feel more creative early in the morning.
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
GF : First of all I focus on the initial idea and then on the details of the project.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
GF : The emotions I feel when I design are different: happiness, fun and satisfaction.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
GF : The emotions I feel when I see my projects realized, I feel satisfied and amazed.
DI: What makes a design successful?
GF : The success of a project depends on various factors. first of all the idea, the marketing and a bit of luck.
DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
GF : The materials used, the aesthetics of the design or its shape.
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
GF : The designer's responsibility is to create beautiful, reliable and democratically appealing things (objects). And for environmentally friendly environments.
DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
GF : At the time I didn't attend exhibitions. The next will be that of ADA.
DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
GF : I take inspiration from nature and the study of the past. I nurture my creativity by reading and studying.
DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
GF : My style is essential and minimalist. The main features are found in the search for details, in light and in forms that are not always minimal.
DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
GF : I live in Pescara.
DI: How do you work with companies?
GF : I listen to their requests and then elaborate my project proposal.
DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?
GF : After a careful analysis of the subject in question I do a research work and then start to elaborate a series of design sketches to reach the final project.
DI: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
GF : Aldo Rossi's coffee machine. Starck's juicer. The chair by Gio Ponti. Le Corbusier's chaiselongue. The Arco d Castiglioni lamp.
DI: Can you describe a day in your life?
GF : Wake up early in the morning. I go to work. Lunch. I work again in the afternoon. If I can, I carry out physical activities and organize meetings for public relations.
DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?
GF : In my opinion there are no golden rules.
DI: What skills are most important for a designer?
GF : A good designer must have a creative eye, he must imagine how the completed work will be, he must have a good hand and use of colors.
DI: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
GF : We use the brain first. Then paper and pencil. Finally, you work with software.
DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
GF : The design takes a long time but sometimes it is necessary to have moments of distraction and then make the best creativity.
DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
GF : It is not easy to determine how long it takes.
DI: What was your most important job experience?
GF : Design a restaurant.
DI: Who are some of your clients?
GF : I have very different clients.
DI: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
GF : I develop projects on my own but I make use of collaborators for the following phases.
DI: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
GF : There are works in progress, including a restaurant project.
