We, as the Designer Interviews ("DI") had the distinct pleasure and opportunity to interview award-winning, most creative and innovative Xiaoyan Wei ("XW").
She is an spacial and furniture designer. She believe everything have its own story, and she is create spatial narratives which promote the interaction between people. Each space provides different experiences. Thus she's eager to design transformative spaces as a rebirth of spatial experience. she brought the concept and understanding of space into the furniture design, and regarded the furniture as a part of the space instead of a individual parts. Therefore, furniture is a reduced spatial form.

Designer Interview of Xiaoyan Wei:
DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
XW : I grew up with my grand-ma in the country side; things were rather nature and pure. When I moved to big cities as I got older I realised that the space here tend to break the connection between people instead of bring them closer. I wanted to help people building friendly relation with each other through my design.
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
XW : Daisenbear studio is furniture and accessories design brand base in Los Angeles. They are finding balance between flinty and femininity. They creating design narratives which promote the interaction between people and carefully curating landscape design stories by texture, light/shadow and negative space.
DI: What is "design" for you?
XW : A tool that could potentially make the world a better place
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
XW : furniture/ spacial experience design/ documentary film making
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
XW : Learn the company's culture
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
XW : I like nature wood and handcraft.
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
XW : When I travel.
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
XW : User experience.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
XW : I feel very exciting and can't stop.
DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
XW : overall visual affect will be the fist thing i consider.
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
XW : Sustainable design

XW : Technology, environmental protection

DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
XW : I born in China and live in Los Angeles. I like Chinese culture a lot and I will do more design to show the local traditional culture.
