Belfug Sener is currently working as a senior user experience designer at Motorola Solutions. She believes that culture, inherent emotion and experience are closely interrelated for design approach. She found her personal interest and created her own ‘meaning’ by user-centered research and experience in healthcare and wellbeing fields with an awareness of and sensitivity towards sociocultural and technological contexts.

DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?

BS : consciousness, awareness, emphaty, patience, values

DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?

BS : My last exhibition was in Dubai in Dubai Design Week in 2018.

DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?

BS : culture, emotion, and user

DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?

BS : user-centered and emotional intelligent design

DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?

BS : I live in the United States. I had my design background from Turkey, Italy and the US. Having a multicultural background has advantages such as having a flexible and universal approach and being a more empathetic designer.

DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?

BS : companies should select a passionate designer who is eager to learn and handle everyday problems and good at communicating his design and unique approach with others.

DI: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?

BS : Moka pot, chair, clock, vase

DI: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?

BS : positives: inspiration, learning curve, creativity, research negatives: satisfaction, time management

DI: What skills are most important for a designer?

BS : soft skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, patience

DI: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?

BS : start with human, problem and interaction as inspiration. Then use tools such as whiteboard, pens, notebook, book. Next use soft tools such as sketch, ai, ps, invision etc.

DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?

BS : with daily reports both at the beginning and the end of each productive day.

DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?

BS : It depends on the description of the design project and process

DI: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?

BS : what is your inspiration and how did you decide to become a designer

DI: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?

BS : Even if I develop the projects that I am leading by myself, I always admire the power of collaboration and teamwork in my working environment and don't hesitate to ask for help and inspiration from my coworkers.
