Designer Interview of Yingjie Lin Yuanyuan Zhang:
DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
YLYZ : My partner and I are both graduates of Guangzhou Academy of fine arts of China. We all study design from art school and finally engage in architectural design. Therefore, our design works can also be more artistic and personalized, emphasizing the interdisciplinary way of thinking, in order to break through the boundaries of the industry.
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
YLYZ : Verge Creative Design Co., Ltd (VCD) is a diversified, cross-border thinking space design company. The aim is to take cross-border thinking as the way to break through the boundary of the industry field and construct a new platform of contemporary design with diversified strategies. The company provides space integration design services such as urban travel space planning and old city renovation design, rural innovation construction, cross-border space design, etc. In the framework of globalization, combined with the concept of land, diversity, overlap to achieve a new industry field integration design.
DI: What is "design" for you?
YLYZ : We think that design is to use creative thinking to realize people's desire for life.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
YLYZ : Our favorite design works with cross-border thinking and creativity.
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
YLYZ : My favorite design is a space work with new media technology and interaction only. With the development of new technology, the future space design will be inseparable with intelligent technology and new technology.
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
YLYZ : The first design I designed for the company was a public kindergarten, which was a 2005 project, which was a colorful children's space design.
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
YLYZ : Wood and new alloy
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
YLYZ : On the train and walking alone
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
YLYZ : The needs of design and how the works can bring people new experience
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
YLYZ : Often excited

YLYZ : Excited, but also not perfect enough to bring regret

YLYZ : Perceptual creativity and clear thinking.

YLYZ : Be suitable for the present as well as the future.
DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
YLYZ : The development of design is the development of new technology and new thinking. The future of design is the future of human life.
DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
YLYZ : My last exhibition was in Chengdu, China in 2019. My next exhibition has not been planned yet.
DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
YLYZ : Our works are inspired by our love and learning of history, culture and new technology. We are constantly creative through continuous self-learning and updating of our knowledge structure.
DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
YLYZ : Our design style is a kind of cultural expression combining new technology and regional aesthetics. The constancy of human nature makes us start to explore the constant life pursuit of people in the changing era.
DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
YLYZ : We live in Guangzhou, a city with a history of more than 2200 years. Its long history and multi culture deeply affect us.
DI: How do you work with companies?
YLYZ : I am the founder and creative director of the company.
DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
YLYZ : Every employee is an integral part of the team and a contributor to a strong project.
DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?
YLYZ : Our design process is from project negotiation, concept planning, scheme design, drawing to on-site construction supervision.
