Lihsing Wang, a versatile artist, fashion, and product designer, resides in NYC. He has an impressive portfolio of accomplishments, having received recognition through 14 prestigious international awards such as the A' Design Award, International Design Awards (IDA), European Product Design Awards, NYCxDESIGN Awards, iF Design Award, and Red Dot Award, among others. Currently, Lihsing is actively involved in the fashion industry, lending his talents to the renowned brand Tory Burch in NYC. His exceptional creative abilities were prominently displayed in the esteemed 2021, 2022 and 2023 NYC fashion shows and runways. In addition to his design successes, Lihsing Wang is the visionary founder of Utopia, an exceptional event platform. Designer Interview of Lihsing Wang:

DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?

LW : I have a master's degree in Industrial design from Pratt Institute and a bachelor's degree from National Taiwan University same major. I was born in a family full of art and design, my father who is also an Industrial designer influenced me a lot, and my mother is an oil painter artist taught me how art can shape the world.

DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?

LW : Lihsing Wang's design studio started from 2018

DI: What is "design" for you?

LW : To me, "Design" is the thing that made life easier and happier.

DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?

LW : "Creative"

DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?

LW : James Dyson's products.

DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?

LW : PLA/3D printing

DI: When do you feel the most creative?

LW : Every moment.

DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?

LW : Interesting

DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?

LW : I have very mixed emotions when I design. It very depends on the design I'm working on.

DI: What makes a design successful?

LW : Hard work, talents, and "luck".

DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?

LW : People are still using this design for many years or even generations, the timeless classic design.

DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?

LW : Every design needs to have a purpose.

DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?

LW : Digital making

DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?

DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?

LW : Everywhere.

DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?

LW : Futuristic, humor, contemporary.

DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?

LW : I was born in Taiwan now living in New York.

DI: How do you work with companies?

LW : Work hard and don’t give up

DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?

LW : There's no easier way except keep trying and never give up.

DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?

LW : Every design is unique and so do the process.

DI: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?

LW : All designs at my home are my favorite.

DI: Can you describe a day in your life?

LW : " Hello World :) "

DI: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?

LW : Work hard and play harder.

DI: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?

LW : There are no negatives after being a designer.

DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?

LW : Design useful things.

DI: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?

LW : Rhino 3D, Grasshopper, Fusion360, 3D printers.

DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?

LW : I always write a to-do list and estimate finishing time before digging into work.

DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?

LW : Hard to say, it can be from 1 min to a lifetime.

DI: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?

LW : How much is it?

DI: What was your most important job experience?

LW : Every experience of works is important.

DI: Who are some of your clients?

LW : The Sample Room NYC, Tory Burch.

DI: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?

LW : Sketching.
