Designer Interview of Dooman Kim:
DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
DK : Our design background is always "easy design for medical staff dealing with human life."
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
DK : GODESIGN Inc. is Korea's leading medical device design company established in 2000 and is located in Seoul.
DI: What is "design" for you?
DK : Design is like life. This is because small details that we have overlooked can determine human life.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
DK : I like designs that can feel psychologically stable. Extremely fond emotions will soon change and will not last long. I think it's a waste if the design is excessive. So I think the design that feels visually and emotionally stable is excellent.
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
DK : I think my favorite design is an arrow(symbol). The design of the "arrow" is very simple, but it conveys the exact meaning and at the same time the design is concise and pretty. I like it because anyone can easily recognize the meaning beyond the language.
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
DK : It is a medical "Portal DNA Blood Analysis Device" commissioned by a medical company 23 years ago.
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
DK : Favorite materials are fabric and wood. Of course, it is still difficult to produce in large quantities in products, but we have to work harder for the environment and future.
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
DK : Medical device design has a lot of suggestive situations. Nevertheless, research and analysis to improve are important. At some point, there are times when a better factor is revealed. This moment is our creative moment, 'Aha! Moment'.
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
DK : I care not to miss all the small elements of the design, I think it's important to carefully examine any minor parts until the last minute.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
DK : Wouldn't designers feel the happiest and most enjoyable when designing?
DI: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
DK : I have worked with companies in Asia and North America, and next, I want to work with global medical companies in Europe.
DI: How can people contact you?
