We, as the Designer Interviews ("DI") had the distinct pleasure and opportunity to interview award-winning, most creative and innovative Liying Wang ("LW").
Liying Wang has an educational background in Theatre Film and TV Fine Arts Design, and she constantly pursued the design path and gain her Master's degree in Graphic design & Digital Media. As a collaborative and detail-oriented designer, she always can provide effective visual solutions in a fast-paced environment. Meanwhile, she strives to create high-quality and high-converting designs that convey a brand's voice to its targeted audiences while helping clients achieve their business goals.

Designer Interview of Liying Wang:
DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
LW : My journey into art and design began at a young age when I discovered my love for creativity and visual expression. I found joy in creating something from scratch and using my imagination to bring ideas to life. As I grew older, my passion for art and design continued to flourish, and I realized that I wanted to pursue it as a career. I was fascinated by the power of design to communicate messages, evoke emotions, and solve problems. The ability to blend aesthetics with functionality and make a tangible impact through visual communication greatly inspired me. To refine my skills and knowledge, I enrolled master’s study program at the Academy of Art University. There, I immersed myself in a wide range of courses, including graphic design, typography, illustration, user experience design, and branding. The program provided me with a strong foundation in design principles, technical skills, and critical thinking, which allowed me to develop my unique style and approach. Throughout my academic journey, I had the opportunity to work on various design projects, both individually and collaboratively. These experiences allowed me to apply my skills in real-world scenarios, work with clients, and understand the importance of meeting their needs while staying true to the principles of design. I am grateful for the opportunities and experiences that have shaped my artistic journey thus far, and I am excited to continue evolving as an artist and designer in the years to come.
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
LW : I'm currently working for Superbolt, a growth marketing agency, and collaborating with a wide range of clients to craft standout visuals with the potential to scale, fit their design needs and help them to achieve their business goals.
DI: What is "design" for you?
LW : "design" for me is the art and process of creating visually appealing and functional solutions to solve problems. It involves combining aesthetics, functionality, and purpose to communicate messages, evoke emotions, and enhance user experiences. Design is about finding the perfect balance between form and function, creating solutions that are not only visually appealing but also serve a specific purpose or meet a particular need.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
LW : In terms of the kinds of works I enjoy designing most, I find great satisfaction in projects that allow me to unleash my creativity and push the boundaries of design. I enjoy designing print materials such as brochures, posters, and packaging. Working with tangible materials and considering their physical attributes adds an extra layer of creativity to the design process. It allows me to explore different textures, finishes, and printing techniques to create visually striking and memorable designs. I am drawn to projects that allow me to combine my passion for creativity with a focus on solving problems and creating meaningful experiences. I thrive when I can use my design skills to make a positive impact and create designs that resonate with people.
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
LW : I feel the most creative when I have the freedom to explore ideas without constraints and when I am in an environment that nurtures creativity. Here are a few situations and factors that tend to inspire my creativity: When I have a clear objective or problem to solve: Having a specific goal or challenge sparks my creative thinking. It gives me a sense of direction and purpose, allowing me to focus my energy and generate innovative solutions. During the ideation and brainstorming phase: This is when I can let my imagination run wild and explore different possibilities. Collaborating with others in a brainstorming session often fuels my creativity, as different perspectives and ideas can lead to unexpected and exciting outcomes. When I engage in research and gather inspiration: Exploring various resources, such as books, websites, art exhibitions, and nature, exposes me to different styles, concepts, and techniques. This research phase not only broadens my knowledge but also triggers new ideas and helps me develop a unique approach to my work. When I receive constructive feedback: Feedback plays a crucial role in my creative process. It helps me refine my ideas, consider alternative perspectives, and challenge myself to push beyond my initial concepts. Constructive criticism encourages me to think critically and improve my work.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
LW : Designing involves constant exploration and discovery. I feel a sense of curiosity as I seek inspiration, research new techniques, and experiment with different design elements. This curiosity drives me to continuously learn and evolve as a designer. As a designer, seeing my ideas come to life and witnessing the positive impact they have on others brings a great sense of satisfaction. When my designs effectively communicate messages, evoke emotions, or solve problems, it validates my efforts and fuels my motivation to continue creating. Designing is not always a smooth journey. There are moments when I encounter challenges or hit roadblocks that can be frustrating. However, I see these obstacles as opportunities for growth and problem-solving. Overcoming these hurdles ultimately leads to a more refined and successful design.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
LW : Completing a design project that meets or exceeds the client's expectations fills me with a sense of pride. Seeing my work recognized and appreciated by others affirms my skills and encourages me to strive for further growth and excellence.
DI: Who are some of your clients?
LW : The clients I worked with were from the beauty & personal care, fashion, food, and kid's essentials industries, etc. Like: Happiest Baby, Lafco, Malin+Goetz, Ten Little, Nestig, Natura, Monument, Harmless Harvest, Goodfish, Sheets and Giggles, etc
