Designer Interview of Cheng Han Wu:

DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?

CHW : I like to use vertical and horizontal combinations a lot when scribbling, as well as stacking layers in a space. This made me realize my love for spatial variation and start studying architecture. I have always tried to embody this interest as a designer by learning about living and using space to create beauty. This interest has enriched my life and helped others to live better lives. I believe this is what drives me as a designer.

DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?

CHW : The core concept of INOTION is to focus on giving meaning and concept to space. We focus on the design of interior space, architectural space and self-built buildings, and undertake commissioned tasks for various design projects. Our goal is to provide a full range of design services, execute project commissions, integrate architectural, interior and commercial design, and provide creative and professional design services.

DI: What is "design" for you?

CHW : Space is the extension of life activities, design concept is the thinking expression of life attitude, and life creates unique and harmonious aesthetics. The purpose of the design is to integrate these elements to produce a comprehensive effect and response.

DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?

CHW : Through conceptually defined works, use concise design language to solve problems, and pursue a balance and effective processing method in terms of practicality and aesthetics.

DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?

CHW : The simplest space design is to create a clean, uncluttered space with no frills by streamlining and simplifying elements. It pursues a simple and clear form language, emphasizing functionality and practicality, making the space appear simple and powerful.

DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?

CHW : We promote the use of environmentally friendly materials such as sustainable wood, low-volatile organic compound (VOC) paints and coatings, and recycled materials. These materials not only reduce environmental impact, but also provide healthier indoor air quality. At the same time, we also use virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technology platforms to improve discussion efficiency and make design discussions more intuitive and effective. In addition, we use modular construction and finishing systems, such as prefabricated wall panels and modular cabinets, to increase construction efficiency, reduce waste, and facilitate assembly and maintenance. Finally, we also actively integrate intelligent control systems to provide more convenient and energy-saving functions for indoor spaces. These practices not only pursue environmental protection, but also improve the quality of living, creating a more comfortable and sustainable indoor environment for people.

DI: When do you feel the most creative?

CHW : Through travel, you can be creative in a state of relaxation and self-reflection. Give yourself some stimulating and relaxing time in a different environment than usual, so that your body and mind can relax, your thoughts will flow more smoothly, and it will help stimulate creative inspiration. At the same time, in quiet moments, new perspectives and insights can be found, which can help inspire creativity and generate new ideas. Through travel, you can break the daily framework and explore new cultures and environments. Such experiences can enrich your thinking and provide a rich and inspiring background for the emergence of creativity. At the same time, through moments of tranquility, being able to focus more on self-reflection and finding new perspectives and insights can help spark creativity and open up new ideas.
