Designer Interview of WangYisu:
DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
WangYisu : I have been learning art since I was eight years old. I took the art exam in high school. I got good grades and entered Qingdao University to start my college career. I studied visual communication design and have been doing well. I ranked first in my major. In September 2022, I entered Northeastern University and became a graduate student. My current research direction is design. I think my love for art is the driving force and goal that makes me want to be a designer.
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
WangYisu : My current company is the School of Art of Northeastern University, where there are two directions: environmental design and visual communication. My major is visual communication. The academic atmosphere here is very good, and the teachers are also very good.
DI: What is "design" for you?
WangYisu : For me, design is a good lifestyle habit that allows people to become observant of life. Good at summing up the laws of life, and record them, draw on the book.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
WangYisu : My favorite type of work is illustration. Especially the Guochao flat style, which is very popular among young people in China.
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
WangYisu : Alien Juicer.
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
WangYisu : A set ui design
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
WangYisu : Recently i prefer the Internet popular AI painting.
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
WangYisu : At night, in the dead of night, is the moment of inspiration.
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
WangYisu : In the early stage of design, I pay more attention to whether the shape is accurate and beautiful. Whether the composition is complete or not, in the middle stage of design, I pay more attention to the color matching. In the later stage of the design, I focused on the rendering of atmosphere.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
WangYisu : For the most part, it was very calm. Sometimes for myself. Creating a really good effect and feeling happy. Sometimes I get angry at the lack of inspiration.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
WangYisu : I feel so happy that I want to go on vacation right away.
DI: What makes a design successful?
WangYisu : I think the secret of successful design lies in the accumulation of inspiration at ordinary times.
DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
WangYisu : To judge whether a design is good or bad, I will first consider whether the color of the work is beautiful and whether the shape is accurate. Whether ideas are interesting or not,
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
WangYisu : A designer Through the current social and environmental problems. Through their own way in their own minds constantly generalize and refine, to convey to people a kind of problem. A solution, or a good hope for the future.
DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
WangYisu : I think the future of design is to follow the progress of current science and technology, the existing tools and means of continuous. Do an iterative upgrade to make it easier to get involved and get the public involved in the design.
DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
WangYisu : I attended the beautiful Seoul, Korea exhibition in June 2022. When is your next exhibition? I haven't decided yet.
DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
WangYisu : My designs are often inspired by a cat at home. If you want to cultivate your creativity, you should read more excellent design cases from the Internet.
DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
WangYisu : Taking illustration as an example, my design style is varied. Since I learned illustration, I have tried three different ones. The style of illustration, and can skillfully use them in their own works. Now the favorite is the flat Koko style.
DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
WangYisu : I live in China, and Chinese culture has deeply influenced my design. Of course, in my country, there are 56 ethnic groups. These 56 ethnic cultures, styles and languages have very large. Different, this for us Chinese children to create their own. The works of the Chinese nation lay a very good geographical environment.
DI: How do you work with companies?

DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
WangYisu : Follow the designer's social media accounts to see if his work is the style the company is looking for.
DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?
WangYisu : For my design process, the first step is the most important research in the early stage. In this stage, I will learn from the Internet. Collect lots of pictures, words and materials from books to ensure my works.
DI: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
WangYisu : Lamps, beds, pillows, curtains and floors.
DI: Can you describe a day in your life?
WangYisu : Haha, my day is always very busy, get up, study, eat, study, sleep.
DI: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
WangYisu : Allow its essence, to its dross, criticize the inheritance of the ancient for gold.
DI: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
WangYisu : On the positive side, my aesthetic will also improve with the level of design. I pick out clothes for myself, I groom myself, and the news is that designing often involves sitting in a chair for long periods of time. This can cause irreversible damage to the body, such as the cervical spine, waist, and eyes. A kind of negative hurt.
DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?
WangYisu : I like the beauty of symmetrical form very much.
DI: What skills are most important for a designer?
WangYisu : It's communication.
DI: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
WangYisu : Photoshop and illustrator.
DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
WangYisu : I'll make a list of ddl to make sure I get this project done.
DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
WangYisu : It usually takes me about a month to design a good illustration, say a number of 3-5 chapters.
DI: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
WangYisu : Why did you design this piece? What are the innovation points and significance of designing this piece?
DI: What was your most important job experience?
WangYisu : New media operation in Shanghai Lilis Company.
DI: Who are some of your clients?
WangYisu : At present, I am still a student and have no fixed customers.
DI: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
WangYisu : I like doll designers, because everyone lives in the heart of a child who will not grow up, through the design of their favorite doll, feel the whole person will become much better.
DI: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
WangYisu : Enter a design company after graduation.
