Designer Interview of PROYECTO CAFEINA:
DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
PC : Actually, I think it was a bit fortuitous, it can be influenced by family members who are passionate about painting and its different techniques, which awakens the freedom of expression of my emotions and sensations. Now I think that it is one of the best decisions made in life, particularly architecture is a profession where you discover surprising contexts, particularities of people and also a continuous exercise of introspection
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
PC : The company was born in the Huasteca Poblana with our first client, an amazing indigenous organization with which we have an exciting relationship to date where we share a philosophy, values and principles that have made me grow in a human way.
DI: What is "design" for you?
PC : The possibility of externalizing an emotion, feeling or experience as a recreation of what is natural or compound
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
PC : The creative phase of any work seems fascinating to me, although I am also passionate about being able to materialize because new edges are always discovered
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
PC : My favorite design becomes when I discover a client who has a defined personality, they have clear goals and objectives in life
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
PC : Housing for beneficiary members of the cooperative where hundreds of houses were produced, each one designed with the consent of the families with a basic architectural program and minimal spaces, this has helped me to assess the impact that the profession of architect can have, which should be positive
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
PC : Low tech high customization is part of our philosophy
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
PC : With the participation of a diverse group in the project I believe that the creative potential is infinite
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
PC : In the identity of the work, that is authentic and generates an intense sensation. The conceptual phase
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
PC : The main ones are curiosity and surprise, from which many different emotions emerge with each project.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
PC : Mainly wonder and critical interest
DI: What makes a design successful?
PC : I believe that the level of success exists as a measure of the dialogue that occurs with the users, the experience that it generates
DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
PC : The main thing is where or who it comes from and finally with the technique with which it is expressed
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
PC : The responsibility to freely express a particular or common problem or need and impact with inclusion.
DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
PC : fortunately towards an inclusive and participatory design. I would like to see a future of personalized and inspiring design
DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
PC : If I remember correctly, it was at Design Week Mexico 2022 and I have the goal of constantly exhibiting my work, even if it is on digital platforms.
DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
PC : Mainly from the context and the user. Collaboration and relationships with clients or colleagues greatly enhance my creativity.
DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
PC : The style is low tech, high customization. The craftsmanship of the different regions, the crafts and the way of expressing it in a practical way have marked the style, the focus is towards a personalized design
