We, as the Designer Interviews ("DI") had the distinct pleasure and opportunity to interview award-winning, most creative and innovative Maciej Kasprzak ("MK").
Maciej Kasprzak is a student of art and mathematics at the University of Augsburg. He works part time at school as an art teacher and offers workshop hours at the University. Next to drawing and creating physical artworks his passion is to design unique objects which often relate to art history, architecture or mythology. Maciej is currently working on building a brand under the name “Renderamo” which will offer his projects. He wants to work on many exciting projects, work with great people and learn a lot from the field of design in the near future.

Designer Interview of Maciej Kasprzak:
DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
MK : I always wanted to be an architect, but ended up studying art and mathematics.
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
MK : I founded my company (Renderamo) in November 2022. Since than I am working on creating the website, new products next to studying and working. The design studio will offer 3d services and its own products.
DI: What is "design" for you?
MK : Design is for me the most efficient way of communication.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
MK : I am designing mostly jewelry, but want to expand my portfolio in near future.
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
MK : The dance bracelet is my favorite design right now, because I won my first award with it.
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
MK : I have only designed for myself. It was a bicycle inspired by formula one.
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
MK : 3D Print, Casting, metal and wood
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
MK : In gym between the sets.
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
MK : I focus on the message the design should transport and then on the unique form.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
MK : only positive once
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
MK : I’m mostly proud of myself that I was able to create it.
DI: What makes a design successful?
MK : Many aspects that play together like form, meaning, function,…
DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
MK : The idea.
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
MK : A designer should be focused on designing meaningful and functional products which production is good for the environment.
DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
MK : I hope that the designs will be more various and complex in the future because of 3d printing technology.
DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
MK : art history, nature, instagram
DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
MK : I think that my style is very unusual. I don’t like simple forms and reducing on the most important.
DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
MK : I am living in Germany for 12 years. I come originally from Poland and feel a cultural heritage of the country. My family
DI: How do you work with companies?
MK : I haven’t worked with companies yet, but I try to be very professional in all I’m doing.
DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
MK : This is very simple. Just contact me.
DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?
MK : I always start with an idea which evolves in my head. At the beginning I start with a research on the internet about what has been done so far. With a clear vision in my head I make first sketches
DI: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
MK : I do not have any design items at home.
DI: Can you describe a day in your life?
MK : I wake up, have a breakfast, go to a university or work. Evenings I normally hit the gym or work on my own projects.
DI: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
MK : Try and fail until you succeed.
DI: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
MK : I’m not a designer, but it’s great to work on new cool products and be able to change the environment. I can imagine that working with some clients might be stressful.
DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?
MK : Design what you would like to use/have/wear.
DI: What skills are most important for a designer?
MK : From my point of view is the ability to imagine objects and bring them first on paper and then translate them into 3d the most important skills. Understanding the function of an object also helps.
DI: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
MK : Paper, pen, Mac Studio, Blender, Adobe Cloud, 3d Printer
DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
MK : I reduce everything else that isn’t important to me.
DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
MK : It depends on how complex is the project, but it takes me in general about 100 hours from beginning to end.
DI: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
MK : Can I make living of it? It is possible to be on top without any connections?
DI: What was your most important job experience?
MK : Teaching art at school and learning how young humans see the world.
DI: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
MK : I do enjoy the first phase in which you come up with ideas and make some first sketches and than the 3d printing process the most.
DI: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
MK : Become a real designer and work for international clients.
DI: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
MK : I develop everything by myself.
DI: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
MK : I have many ideas for different projects, but it’s too early to talk about more than 5 min. I am currently building a brand which will offer 3d services and my design.
