Born in the vibrant city of Abha, Saudi Arabia, in 1997, Adel's journey as a creative force began at a young age. Fascinated by the world of colors and forms, he discovered his passion for painting and drawing as a child. In his teenage years, Adel's focus shifted towards mural art. The expansive walls of the city became his canvas, and he began transforming urban spaces into vibrant, thought-provoking works of art. His murals not only adorned the streets but also served as a reflection of his evolving artistic identity. in 2019, Adel's journey took a new turn as he ventured into the dynamic world of design for film and television. This transition marked a significant chapter in his career, allowing him to merge his passion for art with the storytelling power of the cinematic medium. Adel's artistic vision now extended beyond static canvases to the immersive and collaborative realm of visual storytelling.

Designer Interview of Adel Alserhani:

DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?

AA : I started my journy as a kid who like drawing and painting and after that I started painting murals . My love for design actually comes from cinema when I knew that the man behind that worlds is the production designer I started learning and working in Film's Art Department designing props and set . Now I am a production designer

DI: What is "design" for you?

AA : one part of it that good design is timeless but in the same time it carries a narrative about where and when it come from , it's tell us about the social , economical , geographical even the collective's emotional statues .

DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?

AA : I like the Modular designs because it has a spark from the designer that ignites another spark in the user.

DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?

AA : I really like The Up Armchair by Geatano Pecse for what it tells us about the situation behind it , the clever storytelling it has in regarding the form and technique .

DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?

AA : I admire the bio-based materials .

DI: When do you feel the most creative?

AA : after visitng a design's fairs/exhibitions and galleries .

DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?

AA : The user experince

DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?

AA : sometime it's joy .

DI: What makes a design successful?

AA : I read a quote of the Japanese designer Sori Yanagi once that said " true design lies in a real counter to trends ".

DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?

AA : It's what the design says in all its aspect . in the material , the form , the color and texture , even the way people use it or interact with it .

DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?

AA : Being aware of the world around you and keeping honest and ambitious mindset to change .

DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?

AA : The design field is shifting toward more thoughtful and responsible practices. Rather than chasing trends or fueling endless consumption, designers now have an opportunity and a responsibility to focus on what truly matters: creating meaningful solutions that improve lives, respect the planet, and stand the test of time. The future of design isn’t about making more things; it’s about making things matter more.

DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?

AA : My design focuses in my culture and for the people . I aim to design things that base on behavior and daily-life studies and needs .

DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?

AA : My design focuses in my culture and for the people . I aim to design things that base on behavior and daily-life studies and needs .

DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?

AA : I live in Saudi Arabia . It has a vast cultural heritage that affects my designs. While the world be came one great village I try to maintian the culture need by designing product that serves the daily life of the people

DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?

AA : it's based on observation and research ,on failure and experiments

DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?

AA : I beleive that good design should be timeless but in the same time it should carries a narrative about where and when it come from , it should tell us about the social , economical , geographical even the collective's emotional statues .
