Designer Interview of Edmund Lim:

DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?

EL : I’ve always had a passion for creating and bringing new ideas to life—especially in packaging design. Japanese packaging has been a big source of inspiration for me with its attention to detail and creativity. I majored in packaging at NAFA, and my final-year project even got me my first recognition at the 4As Awards. Since then, I’ve been all about crafting designs that are not just eye-catching, but meaningful too.

DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?

EL : We’re a branding agency nestled in the Little Red Dot (hello, Singapore!), and we’re all about crafting designs you won’t forget, visuals that pop, and packaging designs that tell a story. Think of us as your brand’s creative best friend, with bold creativity to help your identity shine and truly vibe with your audience.

DI: What is "design" for you?

EL : Design is all about making things work better, look smarter, and yes prettier too. It’s creativity with purpose, aimed at making the world just a little better.

DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?

EL : I’d love to keep the brief open, so we have the freedom to explore different design directions and possibilities.

DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?

EL : One of my favorite designs was a board game I created for my final-year project. It focused on sustainability and was designed to teach children about saving endangered animals. Through the game, players learn about different species, the threats posed by poachers, and the ways we can help protect wildlife. The choices made during the game shape the outcome, putting the responsibility in the players’ hands. This project also earned me my very first award, making it even more memorable.

DI: When do you feel the most creative?

EL : When alone and quiet at night

DI: What makes a design successful?

EL : I believe a good design must effectively communicate with its audience emotionally.

DI: What skills are most important for a designer?

EL : Curiosity and the desire to improve
