Designer Interview of Emilia Lucht:
DI: What is "design" for you?
EL : For me a designer is someone who looks at things focused on details always questioning their use and how to improve it. The goal behind our work is to reduce complexity.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
EL : The name or brand that i work for is not important as long as i can follow my passion to interior.
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
EL : The "Eames" design is inspiring, because they have found a lot of totally new solutions to different problems in design.
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
EL : Everything can be the source of inspiration if you are open for it.
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
EL : Based on my apprenticeship as a carpenter (cabinet maker) in Germany my background is very traditional and functional. In my work as a designer i am now able to achieve a fusion of practicability and my creativity. Basically I think it is necessary to combine the beauty of forms and efficiency to achieve a timeless design.
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
EL : I think one of the most important aims of present design is to communicate to society that beautiful design can also be sustainable.
DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
EL : For example just sitting in a cafe anywhere around the world, watching the street life. Inspiration means to me experiences and following an idea focused. The idea for "nuno" was born while I was experimenting with felt as a material.
DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
EL : I try to use past experiences to read the signs of time, to find out what represents our society. At the same time, it is important to me to make new experiences in order to inspire future work.
DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?
EL : Experimenting can be inspiring- this is how the idea for the project "nuno" came up. It also can bring a certain playfulness to an existing concept. A project can start as an experiment or with a concept or both at the same time. The setting, the previous experience and the knowledge decide on the order of the process.
DI: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
EL : I am myself one i guess, so let´s do it.
DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?
EL : My requirement for myself is to design things that fit into a place without disturbing the atmosphere and can be combined with many different styles.
DI: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
EL : My outstanding wish for the future is to see the núno chair in cafes around.
DI: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
EL : Both is possible and can be great for certain designs.
DI: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
EL : I love my work and i am always with it and with my ideas.
