DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
VTS : Since I was a child I knew I needed to be in Art field. I have a BFA in Fine art, Post Bachelor Degree in Textile Design from India. Studied Graphic design in USA and freelancing as Graphic designer and Digital illustration Artist. And a current Interior Design Graduate student at Suffolk University.
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
VTS : Vanash designs Studio is in formation process. Very New.
DI: What is "design" for you?
VTS : Design for me is keeping was really works and deleting what is not required, making life efficient and beautiful.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
VTS : I like designing commercial spaces and products.
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
VTS : Flying Green Rug, It's a rug that is shaped like a section of a meadow. It's fun.
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
VTS : Designer patterns for craft papers
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
VTS : My favorite material these days is Green Wall for interiors spaces | Platform: Apple | Technology: Google Sketchup
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
VTS : In the night, when everyone is sleeping.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
VTS : I get a feeling of exuberance
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
VTS : I feel a sense of contentment.
DI: What makes a design successful?
VTS : My own intiution
DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
VTS : Balance and interesting use negative positive or fill and voids. My eye goes there first.
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
VTS : Use sustainable materials and make effort in finding solution to conserve energy
DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
VTS : Design field is evolving to be very aware of being eco friendly, thus future seems to be on the right track.
DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
VTS : Currently I have 3 paintings exhibited in a mixed artist exhibition at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, USA
DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
VTS : Nature. Bio Morphing nature's objects
DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
VTS : Biomorphic. Humans never get tired of nature and it's a live and ever changing. Creating that is inspired by nature just feels and seems right to eye. Nature give endless choices to study, explore and create. This way to get connected back to nature in a way.
DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
VTS : Acton, 1 hour away from Boston, MA, USA. My cultural heritage influence my designs only when I am mindfully using for purpose in my designs. There are all pros no cons. I have the best of the tools available to my disposal in USA.
DI: How do you work with companies?
VTS : Freelance
DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
VTS : No comment
DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?
VTS : I deeply study a particular object from nature in details, conduct research extensively, conceive an idea, draw sketches and then use technology to create digitally. Create a small physical model.
DI: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
VTS : Ghost chair is one my favorites
DI: Can you describe a day in your life?
VTS : Get up, take my care of daughter, work, work, work, till late night up till 2 am
DI: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
VTS : No comment
DI: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
VTS : All is good.
DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?
VTS : Be inspired by nature.
DI: What skills are most important for a designer?
VTS : my intuitiveness towards design
DI: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
VTS : Observation, exploration, reading about whats new in design. Studying other designer doing wonderful exciting work. Then I am all charged up and good to go.
DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
VTS : These days I am consumed with design. No time for other things. This is fun!
DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
VTS : Depends, 2- 3 weeks
DI: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
VTS : No comment
DI: What was your most important job experience?
VTS : Working at gorgeous digital patterns of textiles.

DI: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
VTS : Designing spaces. because I love designing spaces, it is a most positive experience for me.
DI: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
VTS : Work for an innovate design product company simultaneously working on a design piece at my studio.
DI: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
VTS : I am not much of a team person. I identify with my designs very closely hence I am bit of a individualist. But I like to collaborate. I do a piece of my work that can be collaborated with others' share of work.
DI: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
VTS : I have a set of chair that I am currently working on.
