DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
JJG : I studied archtitecture and worked for an interior designer. After receiving my diploma I founded "Creativbuero" and worked as an architect, interior designer and furniture designer.
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
JJG : The realized projects include different boutiques, practices, medical laboratories, residential buildings, office buildings and exhibitions, exhibtion stands etc.
DI: What is "design" for you?
JJG : Design is progress
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
JJG : Furniture and accessory with function
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
JJG : The design and function of the Renault Espace
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
JJG : Multifunctional cupboard
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
JJG : All kind of materials including recyclable materials
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
JJG : All the time
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
JJG : Reduce to a minimum
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
JJG : An inner sense of satisfaction
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
JJG : Hopeful and waiting for confirmation
DI: What makes a design successful?
JJG : Design has to combine practicality, refinement and elgance
DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
JJG : Optical appearence and function
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
JJG : To be economical
DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
JJG : To develop new solutions with less material and sustainability
DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
JJG : The problems of the daily life
DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
JJG : I respect the taste and needs of my client and give him a vision
DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
JJG : Living in Germany with its huge and always present cultural heritage, influences my design. Especially the Bauhaus and Art Deco. Forthermore the asian design and culture.
DI: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
JJG : vacuum cleaner, ballpoint, espresso machine, sofa, computer mouse
DI: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
JJG : Be yourself and never give up
DI: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
JJG : It is possible to influence the environment directly - The constant urge to design and change
DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?
JJG : Less is more
DI: What skills are most important for a designer?
JJG : To visualize ideas - spartial imagination - technical knowledge
DI: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
JJG : Pencil, transparent paper, pencil tablet-PC, PC with three screens
DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
JJG : It depends on the object - some objects are always in prgress
DI: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
JJG : How do you get your ideas ?
DI: What was your most important job experience?
JJG : Every client is completely different
DI: Who are some of your clients?
JJG : Companies and private persons
DI: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
JJG : Modelling - everybody understands the object
