DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?

WC : I've been working in a design bookshop for years and it open my eye in design. Then I designed to walk into the design business.

DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?

WC : a creative company , involved in different kind of design and art projects

DI: What is "design" for you?

WC : Design is representing the thinking of a designer to identify something. Mixture of beauty and function.

DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?

WC : things I never design before

DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?

WC : too many,every design or work that can trigger my mind is my favorite......

DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?

WC : a small apartment

DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?

WC : all kinds and it depends on different projects and situations

DI: When do you feel the most creative?

WC : when you find interest in something, then you will start to have thinking on this particular things, and it is the time that most creative

DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?

WC : thinking is important. i do always believe that the initial thinking is very important. Once you settle down the correct thinking, the direction of the design will come out automatically, you will then know what to do next with less difficulty. You will then know what form and shape or materials to be use.............

DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?

WC : First excited, then confused, then enlightened , the rest is worry.

DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?

WC : happy and worry at the same time.

DI: What makes a design successful?

WC : can express what you want to say and make others think and feel.

DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?

WC : the mind set of the design is the soul.......i think there is a lot of means to do your design, but the purpose and the thinking behind is the core of everything.

DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?

WC : in no matter what way( function, beauty, environmental friendly..........) to improve the world a little bit better...

DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?

WC : technology did matter, but need to balance with tradition. when we crave for something new, technology is the easiest way for you to break through. however, is it good for us to go pure technology........it is a big question. i feel that technology nowadays make human not human. we should be very careful to keep a balance at the time we chase for the benefit of technology bring us.

DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?

WC : haven't do any exhitbition

DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?

WC : life....... the experience you have.........the understanding of things around you.....is the soul of the inspiration. Reading is a very important input for me. additionally, music , movie also is the main fuel.

DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?

WC : I don't actually believe the word "style"..... Style is the word or the way for people to describe your design. It is important to know that "style doesn't do the design but you do the design become style"

DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?

WC : Hong Kong affect me in too many ways. History of Hong Kong is very short but she has a very exciting experience that other city can never think of........ Hong Kong one of the city that got the fastest pace in the world, very effective, very functional. In a small place like this, Hong Kong try to use the less to do the most in every aspects. (aspects included money, time, space......) Also Hong Kong culture is a mix of China and British, it is really a place that east meet west. Therefore, since we born, we have been cultivated by both culture and try to learn and to survive, to success. In such an environment, you need to be in a way to be very creative to live inside it. The thinking, the understanding, the balance, the quick action, the hardworking is the key for the success of Hong Kong. All these elements help me a lot in Design.

DI: How do you work with companies?

WC : my own company

DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?

WC : Try to listen to the designer, if don't understand then ask questions. Even a stupid questions can be ask. The more the designer can answer your questions (included the good one and the stupid one), the better the designer. Then trust your designer.

DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?

WC : Try to understand the purpose of the design and understand the clients. i usually take a lot of time to talk to the clients. Mutual understanding is very important. Through conversation and background information, added up your thinking, usually the initial idea already come out. Then is for you to analysis all the information and intention to develop the design.

DI: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?

WC : bed, table and chair

DI: Can you describe a day in your life?

WC : day time out-put, night time in-put

DI: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?

DI: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?

WC : don't think that you are designer , than you got no problem

DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?

WC : ask questions

DI: What skills are most important for a designer?

WC : the way of thinking

DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?

WC : just live with it......

DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?

WC : continue to ask questions to the end........

DI: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?

WC : is it right to think this way..........why it is right to think this way

DI: What was your most important job experience?

WC : working 8 years inside a design bookshop

DI: Who are some of your clients?

WC : cosco hit, bmw, new balance........

DI: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?

WC : the design that i never do before..........you can through your experience to put on your thinking to a thing.....

DI: What are your future plans? What is next for you?

WC : Try more different aspect of art and design

DI: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?

WC : mainly develop myself first and then discuss with the team

DI: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?

WC : no at the moment
