Designer Interview of Amin Einakian:

DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?

AE : My passion about problem solving and creating beauty led me to design.

DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?

AE : According to the engineering background all the design process should be clear and planned. From the first step (a clear question) to the last step (final presentation) everything should be clear and touchable. Although there are some concept solutions in the design process, the design should be practical at some point.

DI: What is "design" for you?

AE : Although Design is my passion, it is also a tool for me to help others as much as I can in my way.

DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?

AE : Design projects which is which have a story behind them. They are usually beyond styling.

DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?

AE : My favorite design is a mobile shop. The goal of this project is solving some economical problems.

DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?

AE : I think it was an interior design for barber shop.

DI: When do you feel the most creative?

AE : When I have an idea and I am listening to my favorite music in same time.

DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?

AE : I usually spent most of my time on ideation phase.

DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?

AE : I am a little stressful as I want my design to be the best and also feel relieved.

DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?

AE : I am usually happy, proud and relieved.

DI: What makes a design successful?

AE : In my idea the affect of design on your life make a design successful. It can be from the aspect of beauty, feasibility, problem solving,etc.

DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?

AE : Ideation is the first thing that I consider.

DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?

AE : I think the most important responsibility for a designer is to be honest in his design.

DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?

AE : I think the future of design is beyond styling. It will be more creating than just styling.

DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?

AE : every thing can inspire me. it can be an element in Hollywood movies or a creature in nature.

DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?

AE : First ideation, then styling. I think design profession is heavily related to people taste and tastes are different. So ideation will be the edge.

DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?

AE : I live in US right now but I'm from Iran. Of course any thing can affect designs of a designer and cultural heritage is one of the most important things among them.

DI: How do you work with companies?

AE : It depends on the kind of projects they ask for.

DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?

AE : I usually value a designer who has a prospect of the future in his designs more. And I think this is important for companies to survive in future.

DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?

AE : My design process begins with a simple question, continues with research and finding the restrictions, ideation to find the most simple solution, sketching and ends with final presentation.

DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?

AE : to be honest.

DI: What skills are most important for a designer?

AE : I think the most important skill for a designer is how to present his/her work.

DI: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?

AE : I usually use pen and paper, Cs Photoshop, 3ds MAX, Rhino and Alias during my design.

DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?

AE : I usually have a time table for all of my designs.

DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?

AE : It depends on the product that I design. IT can be a day, week or month.

DI: What was your most important job experience?

AE : The most important job experience for me was working in a bus producer company as a designer and modeler.

DI: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?

AE : I have worked as a team and individual. everything depend on the condition.
