We, as the Designer Interviews ("DI") had the distinct pleasure and opportunity to interview award-winning, most creative and innovative Margarita Bosnjak, M.Arch. ("MBM").
Margarita Bosnjak is a London-based Architect and Designer. Born in Croatia, she got her Master's Degree in Architecture at University of Zagreb in 2004, where she had worked for several years as a licenced Architect. Margarita got her Master's Degree in Arts and Design Practice at Bucks New University in United Kingdom in 2013 and continues to work as a Designer and Architect. In her work she tries to appreciate the importance of a whole context, as well as a single detail. Margarita also has a passion for photography and travel.

DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
MBM : I have always wanted to be designer/architect.
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
MBM : London-based Studio for Architecture and Design.
DI: What is "design" for you?
MBM : Making people's lives better.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
MBM : The one with a hidden surprise.
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
MBM : My Cube Side Table, it combines relevant aspects of both Interior and Furniture.
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
MBM : A restroom.
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
MBM : Paper and pencil.
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
MBM : At night.
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
MBM : Psychology.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
MBM : Happiness.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
MBM : Fulfillment.
DI: What makes a design successful?
MBM : Satisfied customer.
DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
MBM : How it fits into the context.
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
MBM : Designers today hold a key to evolution of the humanity.
DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
MBM : The future of Design looks very bright, everything is global now.
DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
MBM : The last exhibition was in January in Herman Miller Showroom in London. The next one should be in Saatchi Gallery.
DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
MBM : I response to current needs of people around me.
DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
MBM : I look at the brief from different angles, respecting every detail as well as the whole context.
DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
MBM : I live in London, but the Mediterranean influence is strongly embedded into my design, as I was born in Croatia.
DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
MBM : Don't select a designer, select a design.
DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?
MBM : It's completely random.
DI: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
MBM : Panton chair, Juicy Salif by P. Stark, ...
DI: Can you describe a day in your life?
MBM : Busy, busy...
DI: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
MBM : Everything has already been invented. Be brave, but humble.
DI: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
MBM : Designers are creative people and enjoy the process of making this world a nicer place. But if one is stuck in a non-creative environment, it can be suffocating and damaging for one's mind.
DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?
MBM : Look at the whole picture.
DI: What skills are most important for a designer?
MBM : PR and Marketing Skills.
DI: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
MBM : My toolbox is my head.
DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
MBM : I am well organized.
DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
MBM : Depends on the brief.
DI: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
MBM : Why do you always wear black?
DI: What was your most important job experience?
MBM : Working for free.
DI: Who are some of your clients?
MBM : Ordinary people.
DI: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
MBM : The one that makes a user think.
DI: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
MBM : World peace
