We, as the Designer Interviews ("DI") had the distinct pleasure and opportunity to interview award-winning, most creative and innovative Lin shaobin ("LS").
Mr.Lin is member of Shenzhen Graphic Design Association.He have got more than 300 domestic and international awards. Including Newyork ONE SHOW Golden award, Russia Best of the Best Golden award, Hongkong International Poster Triennial Golden award, Taiwan International Graphic Design Golden award, Belgium Pentawards Silver award, Germany Red Dot and IF award etc.

DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
LS : I am not reading design or art related professional school. My major is computer application. Because childhood like painting, so love this related work. I understood the design career when I came to work, that I always wanted to become a designer.
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
LS : My company is my own founder. The company name is my name.
DI: What is "design" for you?
LS : The design is find the problem of the project and fix it.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
LS : I like to solve the practical problems, but also have a certain art and aesthetics. it is better to have an unprecedented performance.
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
LS : My favorite design is product packaging and construction.
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
LS : I like the natural texture of the paper, delicate craft.
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
LS : At night.
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
LS : Art and culture.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
LS : calm thinking
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
LS : very happy.
DI: What makes a design successful?
LS : Clients satisfied.
DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
LS : Information transfer, beautiful, artistic expression, different.
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
LS : Do my best to improve the aesthetic of the design for society.
DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
LS : Should be combined with new technology, new art, including multimedia. I think the design of the future should be more humane, more life.
DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
LS : My personal exhibition has not yet. But more involved, the nearly one is China TDC.
DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
LS : My work is inspired by life. Always encounter many interesting thins in life, including travel, design books and so on. Keep curiosity about the new things, I think this is my way to cultivate my own ideas.
DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
LS : My design style biased towards traditional Chinese culture, less color, more black and white graphics. At the same time will be injected into some of the creative, so that the design is more spiritual.
DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
LS : I live in Shantou and Shanghai city in China. I think Chinese cultural heritage has a great impact on my design. In China, the shortcomings of the design is the generally backward aesthetic.
DI: How do you work with companies?
LS : Division of labor.
DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
LS : Need to understand the designer’s style and professionalism is suitable for the company’s needs.
DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?
LS : Generally I divided into two processes, one is in the project do not want to know too much of the case of free creation, with the feeling and adjust of need after. Another is in full accordance with the project plan step by step implementation.
DI: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
LS : Tea sets, tea cans, chairs, ornaments, decorations.
DI: Can you describe a day in your life?
LS : Get up in the morning to wash teeth and hair, see news through the phone after breakfast. And then dressed up to go to work in the company. Continue to open the computer check whether the work of the day there is a perfect place, then go to bed.
DI: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
LS : As much as possible to see more excellent design work. You can cultivate their own aesthetic and works to bring their own inspiration.
DI: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
LS : Get the clients and consumers recognition, get the recognition of professional awards that is positives. Negatives factors are not recognized, even their own are off, not satisfied with the works.
DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?
LS : Training aesthetic and creative ability.
DI: What skills are most important for a designer?
LS : Vision and cogitation of solution problem.
DI: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
LS : PHOTOSHOW,CORELDRAW.Inspired by sources,books,supermarkets and life.
DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
LS : Look for creative direction first, and then communicate with clients, clear the direction of the creation.
DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
LS : About 4 weeks.

LS : Lack of inspiration

LS : I hope to try more experiments to break through myself in future.
DI: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
LS : I work with a term.
DI: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
LS : I do the design for a Chinese Sichuan restaurant now. Named ‘song’ of the Song dynasty in China. Look for a lot of information for Song dynasty in the design. I personally feel that Chinese Song Dynasty is a very high level of artistic in history, I can learn a lot in it.
