I am 35 years old, I live and work near Padua. I graduated in architecture in Venice in 2005 , and from February 2006 I work as a freelance, developing architectural projects and interior design. I follow my projects from the sketch to the project manager on site and I love being part not only of the design process, but also working with who realizes concretely my idea, because this collaboration generates unexpected drifts and interesting new ideas.

Designer Interview of Alessandra Meacci:

DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?

AM : I’m an architect and an interior designer. I often find in my work recurring needs in furnishing the spaces, which find no easy answer in existing furniture pieces. So came the idea of draw by myself those pieces I imagined can satisfy these needs.

DI: What is "design" for you?

AM : Functionality, aesthetic research,lightness, versatility, irony .

DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?

AM : My favourite works are forniture : objects that has a relation with the space in wich they are placed .

DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?

AM : I love to work with laser cut, on metal or plexiglass.

DI: When do you feel the most creative?

AM : When my work starts from a real need.

DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?

AM : For me it’s important that the object can be discovered in time,that it does not show everything at first glance; it will change with the light of day and it will be used in different ways.

DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?

AM : While I'm developing a project, I’m totally focused on my work, and as long as I do not solve all the points I can’t think of anything else.

DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?

AM : luckily, I am usually very proud.

DI: What makes a design successful?

AM : It must be elegant, but also surprising. It must tell a story and recall emotions and memories

DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?

AM : The originality and the courage of the project.

DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?

AM : Investigate materials and technologies sustainable.

DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?

AM : In Aplril Bolina was at the exhibition celebrating the 20 years of Salone Satellite. The exhibition, called "SaloneSatellite20 years of new creativity" took place in Fabbrica del Vapore in Milan from the 4 to the 25 of April.

DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?

AM : Working as architect I often find inspiration in the interior design project that I'm developing; when I bump into requirements that have not yet answers, from there starts a new search.

DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?

AM : I like to work with different materials and colors; to mix references to the past and research of the new. I pay attention to the way light interacts with my objects.I want surprise and touch people with my design.

DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?

AM : I live in Italy and I studied Architecture in Venice: here is impossible to be indifferent to beauty and art. I do not presume to say that my style shows something of the artistic culture of my country : it is too vast and important. Definitely my taste was influenced in the search of composition,of alternation of lights and shades,of combination of colors.

DI: What skills are most important for a designer?

AM : an open mind and the intuition to understand the needs unexpressed.

DI: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?

AM : I often do material models:it helps me to think
