DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?

HCH : I have been studying the marketing plans for houses since little and I often fantasize about designing houses as I wish. I have determined to work towards this dream after I grew up.

DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?

HCH : Mushi Interior Design is a company that respects the taste and needs in life of each hour owner. We specialize in the relation of proportion, and ideal matching colors and materials, to compose the exceptional style and characteristics of space. We also detach from the existing regional division rules but take consideration of dwellers’ needs and pay attention to the corresponding interaction between building environment and the nature of the field.

DI: What is "design" for you?

HCH : Interior design for me is pre-thinking and a planning method for accomplishing perfect life.

DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?

HCH : Stainless steel is my favorite material to use and I specialize in building opening space through linear stacking.

DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?

HCH : Less is a bore.

DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?

HCH : I specifically focus on movement and layout planning in design in addition to upholding to my intent and credo in bold breakthrough.

DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?

HCH : Stainless steel is my favorite material to use.

DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?

HCH : I specifically focus on movement and layout planning in design in addition to upholding to my intent and credo in bold breakthrough.

DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?

HCH : Holding the mind, and keep the courage of break through.

DI: What makes a design successful?

HCH : I believe that the key success to a design work lies on the sufficient room for exertion provided by clients to designers.

DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?

HCH : To determine the success or failure of a work, I first observe the building of entire atmosphere and the coordination in color and material proportionality.

DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?

HCH : The responsibility of designers is to make a good and right design that will consequently improves the living quality of people.

DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?

HCH : I believe the design fields (industrial design, plane design, clothing design…etc.) are all interoperable. The future of design is a beautiful life cycle that links up food, clothing, residence, education and entertainment.

DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?

HCH : My aspiration for design usually comes from the building shape that can be observed regularly.

DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?

HCH : My design style can be defined as mixed modernism.

DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?

HCH : Taiwan,Taipei.

DI: How do you work with companies?

HCH : I believe that the full communication between the clients and designer is very important as the clients mainly help designers understand their habits in life in order to complete the living space most suitable to them.

DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?

HCH : As an interior designer, I believe that the most important requirement is the interpersonal communication and capacity of design expression.

DI: What skills are most important for a designer?

HCH : As an interior designer, I believe that the most important requirement is the interpersonal communication and capacity of design expression.

DI: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?

HCH : Sketch up and Autocad.

DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?

HCH : For time-consuming design work, I will make time management through pre-scheduling of work schedule. The execution time for one work often takes about several months and up to 1 year or more.

DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?

DI: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?

HCH : The most frequent question that I have been asked is: “How would you design and what is your plan for my house.”

DI: What was your most important job experience?

HCH : The most important experience in my design career is opening my own business. I really enjoy residential design and I hope to continue building more beautiful rooms with best efforts.

HCH : Residential space.
