DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
DC : Paper clothing can be a wearable sculpture. Its shapes are based on garment making. Interest on painting made me to study fashion design. Sharing art works for others is main reason for developing design.
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
DC : It is dept. of clothing and textiles at Chonnam national university in South Korea. It is involved with international Hanji fashion show held in Jeonju-si.
DI: What is "design" for you?
DC : Good design can help human life.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
DC : Fusion dress based on Korean traditional dress ‘Hanbok’, paper dress for art works, Illustrations with hand drawing and graphics.
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
DC : It is another paper dress installed LED white lighting. Its photography was chosen a graphic final work in Premio Internazionale d'Arte Contemporanea LYNX 2015. It is a casual wedding dress which is composed with a jacket and a skirt. The jacket was painted by acrylic.
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
DC : It was Hanbok for children.
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
DC : Materials are fabric, Hanji, other various papers and LED lighting devices. Platform is fashion items which are clothing, necktie and fashion illustration. Technology is garment making, hand drawing and using graphic tools.
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
DC : It is in the middle of making real work from ideas.
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
DC : They are shapes and color.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
DC : I feel happy.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
DC : Thank you for all.
DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
DC : Its motive and technical expression.
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
DC : Works can help others.
DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
DC : More designs can contain cultural contents in digital way.
DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
DC : It was the last exhibition Lynx Prize 2015 from 26.02.2016 – 20.03.2016 at Sala degli Archi della Fortezza Nuova in Italy.
DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
DC : They are from fashion. It is expressed not only to wear but also to share its motive. Motive is to be good in human life.
DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
DC : It is casual expression about formal style. Classic dress code is adopted to digital images and mixed with LED lighting devices.
DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
DC : I live in Damyang in Jeollanam-do Province. It is main place representing Korean literature heritage and Korean traditional garden. Folkcraft craftsmen live near. It promotes me to use Korean cultural contents in my design.
DI: How do you work with companies?
DC : I work as a designer under the contract.
DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
DC : They are clear, honest contract condition and kind communication system. They can be selected by previous their design works and sincerity including design motives.
DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?
DC : Ideas are rough sketched. When it is in the making, unexpected results and design patterns are considered together.
DI: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
DC : Three fashion illustrations two paper dresses displayed at celeste network as well
DI: Can you describe a day in your life?
DC : It starts from a birdcall from window, because here is countryside near the city. I check works at home and go to the university to meet people.
DI: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
DC : Understanding the principle of design and material is very helpful.
DI: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
DC : A Designer can express ideas through visual and shaped works. Sometimes It needs time.
DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?
DC : It is giving positive manner.
DI: What skills are most important for a designer?
DC : It is the reason.
DI: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
DC : Photoshop, Illustration, 3ds Max, fashion books, painting tools, surface pro3.
DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
DC : I write daily works and check them.
DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
DC : It takes from 1 week to 3 months.
DI: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
DC : How makes them to include good.
DI: What was your most important job experience?
DC : It was designing for childern’s Korean traditional dress.
DI: Who are some of your clients?
DC : I didn't sell them yet
DI: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
DC : It is designing 2D images and making them into real clothing.
DI: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
DC : It is producing fashion design to use in media contents
DI: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
DC : Now I work myself.
DI: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
DC : It is designing game character’s fusion costume.
