DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
LJJ : Previously I was studying Interior design and decided to make a switch to industrial design after designing furniture.I always wanted to be an artist, but I believed that to be a design, you sometimes have to be an artist.
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
LJJ : I am working individually for my individual creation. Design studio, currently I am working on Tech wearables for AR glasses.
DI: What is "design" for you?
LJJ : Design is an improvement of objects, service and interaction.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
LJJ : I love designing sustainable design, green design, because you can be an artist in your creation.I do enjoyed designing tech products, because then I will understand the constraints and limitations
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
LJJ : Timeless designs by jasper morrison.
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
LJJ : Tablewares, and table objects.
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
LJJ : using low cost material to turn into something usable and looks premium.
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
LJJ : Morning, when I feel that I can design as free as I wanted.
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
LJJ : Percieved appearance of an object, how to find ways to change the impression of the object at the first glance.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
LJJ : Fulfilling but always filled with frustrations. Exciting moments only come when you see that your idea works and you are moving forward to make it into a reality. Frustration is when you could not get things right and there are many external factors.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
LJJ : excited because it is a new creation
DI: What makes a design successful?
LJJ : timeless design.
DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
LJJ : functionality and whether the looks are unique
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
LJJ : designers need to be humble and always look at the users instead of using design as an expressing piece.
DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
LJJ : Design focused more on the users and less on the personal style of the designer
DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?

DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
LJJ : Every morning come up with ideation and concepts, afternoon execute and test them out. Evening might be a good timing relax and expose to new things.
DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
LJJ : Good design is timeless and hidden.sometimes I am very stubborn with my design, and kept pushing. After a few days or weeks, when i looked back and the work i created, I might have the persepctive that it was over done.Sometimes, in design I have to learn to let go.
DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
LJJ : I stayed in singapore, but currently I moved to Beijing China, to find new opportunities. Culture plays a big part in the growth of a designer. Because the more a designer is exposed to new things, he will see different things.
DI: How do you work with companies?
LJJ : I contribute with my Hands on skills and modelling on software.
DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
LJJ : go beyond looking for awards and achievement, because every designer is different.
DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?
LJJ : I think designers need to have personal style, following others might take aways my thinking process and thoughts. It is a good idea to look and get inspirations.
DI: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
LJJ : chair, coffee machine, table, lamps and pens
DI: Can you describe a day in your life?
LJJ : Every morning come up with ideation and concepts, afternoon execute and test them out. Evening might be a good timing relax and expose to new things.
DI: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
LJJ : Try hard every day and believe in yourself.
DI: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
LJJ : designers need to learn to let go of personal styles to learn more about users and consumers.
DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?
LJJ : Always be curious and open to ideas.
DI: What skills are most important for a designer?
LJJ : Critical thinking
DI: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
LJJ : sketching, making and thinking
DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
LJJ : need to be flexible
DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
LJJ : sometimes months, some projects 1 year
DI: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
LJJ : how to make it better
DI: What was your most important job experience?
LJJ : Always be curious and open to ideas.

DI: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
LJJ : Crafttech
DI: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
LJJ : My current plan is to find new opportunities in the China market. my Future plans are to be flexible and come up with good designs that is timeless and can be adapted in any market, fit the end users, and learn how to be a great designer.
DI: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
LJJ : I have a mix of both, because I started out alone. With the crafts that i built, I worked with partners and test my crafts and find ways to refine it.
