Designer Interview of Delphine Goyon & Catherine Alamy:
DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
DG&CA : Since I was a little girl, creative crafts attracted me, especially manual activities, drawing, pottery ...
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
DG&CA : Arôme is a communication and advertising agency created in Avignon, in France. For more than 15 years, we have been supporting our clients and partners by deploying our expertise and creativity on several levels to offer effective global support and implement meaningful communication devices.
DI: What is "design" for you?
DG&CA : Even if the word design is nowadays popularized and often used, design means putting beauty, aesthetics in an element that is not necessarily its primary function. Our company today is much more trendy and design than it was 20 years ago.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
DG&CA : We like to design visual identities, packaging but also web interfaces.
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
DG&CA : The packaging!Arôme offers businesses and brands the opportunity to design or update their line of food packaging and all types of packaging.Impact of in-store packaging, in line, consistency with products, consistency with product segmentation ... as many challenges to achieve through a collaboration with our designers, which will find relevant solutions. Our team of creative designers will accompany companies in the creation and design on all media (cardboard, plastics ...). Aroma will be force of proposal and will help companies in selecting the right choices according to your needs and constraints.
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
DG&CA : The first thing I designed for a company was a logo. Very difficult exercise for a first time ,)
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
DG&CA : Our favorite material to work is the Adobe Suite.
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
DG&CA : Although this feeling is never very pleasant, Creativity and responsiveness are not leitmotif
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
DG&CA : We start at each phase of creation a well-defined process: benchmark, trend chart, study of the competition. And this each time before embarking on a project.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
DG&CA : When we enter the creative phase, it has at the same time some form of excitement, freedom, dream and imagination.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
DG&CA : When a project ends, there is both the satisfaction and the pride of a well-completed job but also the feeling of having accomplished its mission well.
DI: What makes a design successful?
DG&CA : Many reasons make the success of a design. There is already a chronological aspect to be the first to have imagined this or that concept. There is also the sector in which the design is found that may or may not have the craze and finally the diffusion of design on social networks for example can suddenly surpendre us by his success.
DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
DG&CA : The first aspect of a good design is to respond to its function. A good website interface for example will allow the user to navigate smoothly on a website. The second aspect is to master the signifiers, the codes that the target knows. And finally the aesthetic aspect.
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
DG&CA : The designer is today responsible for the future, for the future of the products he designs. For example, through the choice of materials, an ecological dimension must be addressed and must be an integral part of the product's thinking at the time of its creation.
DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
DG&CA : I feel that today our society is aware of overconsumption, global warming without changing its habits. Design can help society become more responsible, by consuming better, using cleaner, more resistant products made from recycled elements ...
DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
DG&CA : Our last exhibition was in Come, Italy, at the MOOD, in 2018, and we hope the next exhibition will be at Come in Italy, at MOOD in 2019 ;)
DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
DG&CA : We find our inspirations in the book A Design Award, but also on the Internet with websites like Packaging of the world for example? And finally, on social networks like Pinterest or Intstagram, many resources inspire us daily.
DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
