We, as the Designer Interviews ("DI") had the distinct pleasure and opportunity to interview award-winning, most creative and innovative Sergey Nos ("SN").
Sergey is graphic designer by nature, main profile - handcrafting, each project usually have step 1 -hand sketching, it is very important to understand brand, future form and perspectives. It can be very long period from brief to final realisation, but it will be the best decision for task. Major achievement - Vodka ONEGIN, first big project from concept to real product with full brand set - packaging, brandbook, video and print advertising.

DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
SN : No, I planned to be a tax specialist, but life goes to other way, and I went to advertising university.
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
SN : It is my studio, specially for individual projects.
DI: What is "design" for you?
SN : World around you, everything is designed by somebody, even nature.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
SN : branding and packaging
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
SN : I think it is Onegin vodka, because it was from first sketch of bottle - to real product in shops.
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
SN : logotype for kid's wear
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
SN : 3d-embossing
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
SN : at sunny morning at summer, it is the best time fro creative work.
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
SN : small details, hidden meanings.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
SN : Concentration at work, forgetting other problems or things around
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
SN : Satisfaction, emotion that you live not just
DI: What makes a design successful?
SN : hope and hard work
DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
SN : how detailed it is made. How unique idea or style.
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
SN : design making world more comfort and easy
DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
SN : I think it will be something like - dream designer or thinking process interface design. People start to design own inner world and processes.
DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
SN : I haven't exhibitions
DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
SN : It came from mason's culture, which was in trend in Russia at 19th century.
DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
SN : I call it sacral geometry, because I use simple graphic style to translate different things - letters, brand values and brand world.
DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
SN : I'm living in Moscow, Russia, and yes, that work was affected by heritage, because name of the brand - one of most popular Russian novel.
DI: How do you work with companies?
SN : Like with people, each company - is a real peoples, so I try to became a friend and understand they needs.
DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
SN : only trying different designers, because you can have name, or beautiful portfolio, but when you start to work with real brand or difficult company - you can't do your best
DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?
SN : I'm always start from pencil and paper. And - researching. It's important - to see what other designers do.
DI: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
SN : 1. Bed (BoConcept) 2. Vaporiser Air-o-Swiss 3. Selfmade table for bathroom 4. Stand for knives 5. TV stand
DI: Can you describe a day in your life?
SN : get up, playing with kids, going to work as fast as I can, working - 6-7 hours. Them family time and going to sleep.
DI: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
SN : never give up.
DI: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
SN : Positive - you are creator Negative - you are creating client's dreams
DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?
SN : if you like it - it's not mean that it is cool.
DI: What skills are most important for a designer?
SN : you need to feel style.
DI: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
SN : pencil, behance.net and adobe creative cloud - it is enough to all briefs.
DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
SN : by post-it stickers - always updating status of projects and dates.
DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
SN : it depends by client, it can be 1 week or 1 year.
DI: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
SN : Can you draw me?
DI: What was your most important job experience?
SN : working on Onegin - it was good professional school - from client management to pre-press skills.
DI: Who are some of your clients?
SN : Simple Group, largest wine company in Russia, and now - spirits manufacturer.
DI: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
SN : packaging - because you can see your work, you can buy it and have a little museum at office.
DI: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
SN : I think I will try to manage creatives. 2-3 designer to teach.
DI: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
SN : Myself, before I have time for all my projects - I will work alone.
DI: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
SN : Armenian cognac rebranding, I thinks it is interesting, because I went deep in other culture to find main idea for concept.
