Designer Interview of Giorgio Gaudio:

DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?

GG : I majored in product design at IAAD University. Following graduation, I worked at the design studio Nussbaumer Design for 1 year, now i work like freelance for startups.

DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?

GG : I've known socialfare for my thesis project, are a very open-minded studio, they use interesting methodologies

DI: What is "design" for you?

GG : Create something to help people

DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?

GG : Humanitarian projects, projects for real human needs

DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?

GG : Mine Kafon Drone by Massoud Hassani. A project that serves to save lives, a drone that helps locate the presence of mines in the territory and disenchant them.

DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?

GG : A pair of shears.

DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?

GG : Gray matter, hands

DI: When do you feel the most creative?

GG : In the subway

DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?

GG : Functionality, think of every detail and user experience

DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?

GG : I can fell anything, sorry.

DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?

GG : So, i'm happy of course.

DI: What makes a design successful?

GG : The participatory design

DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?

GG : is useful to something or someone?

DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?

GG : Design using the head, improve the world for real, seems for me that "chair" problemis solved.

DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?

GG : Yes, I think it's an evolving world, surely the Anthropological design will move forward

DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?

GG : I have not yet held an exhibition

DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?

GG : One thing: human behavior

DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?

GG : I take inspiration from everything, concentrate everything to find a pleasant aesthetic shape

DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?

GG : I live in Turin/Italy, here the culture of social design is not very strong, we are still too tied to the golden age of Italian design.

DI: How do you work with companies?

GG : Well, even if I prefer to work autonomously

DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?

GG : Listen well, understand the best that the designer wants to convey and draw

DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?

GG : I look at people, I know the problems everyday, sometimes I ask for something, divide, and talk to all the actors that revolve around a specific field. After drawing and looking for feedback

DI: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?

GG : Sketchbook, pilot pen, iphone, toothbrush and sweet fork

DI: Can you describe a day in your life?

GG : I live differently every day, basically I try to live it serenely

DI: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?

GG : i don't know, i'm a young designer.

DI: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?

GG : Invent the world and have the responsibility to do it

DI: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?

GG : I see, speak and write, nothing else

DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?

GG : In fact I can not do it best, I do not have a solution.

DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?

GG : It depends

DI: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?

GG : Do you make me a drawing?

DI: What was your most important job experience?

GG : My experience at Nussbaumer design studio

DI: Who are some of your clients?

GG : Atomic,scarpa,Verdemax, Pieps.

DI: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?

GG : The shears, my first job, are fond of me

DI: What are your future plans? What is next for you?

GG : No plans, only hard work.

DI: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?

GG : Depends on the project

DI: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?

GG : I'm doing a research on jail design
