We, as the Designer Interviews ("DI") had the distinct pleasure and opportunity to interview award-winning, most creative and innovative Makiko Taguchi ("MT").

Makiko Taguchi is a freelance photographer in Hokkaido, Japan.The main job is to take advertisement photos of newspapers and magazines, and portraits of people.Mission is to record stereoscopic images and momentary events in planar photographs.It is a pleasure to meet lots of people through photos.At the photo office founded by her, she is receiving work regardless of people, still life, landscape. Recently video production has also started.

Designer Interview of Makiko Taguchi:

DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?

MT : When I was a child, I read the book of the mechanism of the camera I met in the library and had a dream for photographer. It is around 9 years old.

DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?

MT : My photo office is located in Kitami City, Hokkaido, Japan. On a regular basis, we receive requests from regional advertising agencies and individual customers to conduct photography business.

DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?

MT : I like simple works with straight appeal.

DI: When do you feel the most creative?

MT : When I am most creative, I am taking photos.

DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?

MT : It may be a Japanese mindset, I can be empty mind meditation, and sense the quiet world without sounds and fragrances.

DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?

MT : I'm happy.

DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?

MT : First impression.Because people think that they judge good or bad instantaneously.I think it is really a moment.

DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?

MT : I think there are responsibilities and missions that are useful for the world and for the people.

DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?

MT : Even though the tools used to create the design evolve, I think that the finished design will become more primitive and simpler.

DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?

MT : I exhibited one work from the booth of Kitai gallery at "Artexpo New York 2017" held in April. The next exhibition will hold a solo exhibition in Tokyo from Friday, June 23, 2017 until Tuesday, June 27, 2017 in Japan.The venue is the "Gallery NIW" rental gallery located in Sekiguchi 1-44-8, Bunkyo-ku Tokyo.

DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?

MT : It is a past experience, memories, memories, etc.

DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?

MT : Photograph.

DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?

MT : I live in Hokkaido, Japan.The cultural heritage of this country has a great influence on my photographs.

DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?

MT : It is a better advertisement.In local cities, few designers work together, can not choose.

DI: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?

MT : My favorite design items are Marvin's pocket watch, Guess's watch, Hario's coffee mill, Apple's Macintosh, Mikaela' s leather shoes.

DI: Can you describe a day in your life?

MT : What does it mean?

DI: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?

MT : I think positive things are that we can meet lots of people. I think that negative things are sometimes lonely work.

DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?

MT : My Golden Rule is being honest.

DI: What skills are most important for a designer?

MT : To see lots of good things and not good things.

DI: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?

MT : Mainly using Canon EOS 7D Mark II, processing with Adobe Lightroom, Illustrator, Photoshop.

DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?

MT : It depends on work. There are times in hours, there are things that take one day, others are weekly or monthly.

DI: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?

MT : Why did you decide to become a photographer?

DI: What was your most important job experience?

MT : Every job is the most important and grows me.

DI: Who are some of your clients?

MT : My main client is a local advertising agency.

DI: What are your future plans? What is next for you?

MT : My future plan is that it may be a dream, but to take a picture of one Japanese stage actress with my idea and inspiration.She is a famous and excellent expresser. But to get her taken, I need many connections, a good photography team, a lot of time and money.I have not got them enough yet.But I believe that someday I want to fulfill this dream project.

DI: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?

MT : I sometimes work in a team, but sometimes I am alone.
