We, as the Designer Interviews ("DI") had the distinct pleasure and opportunity to interview award-winning, most creative and innovative Morteza Ghorbani Eftekhar ("MGE").

Morteza is a highly creative and skilled entrepreneur with +20 years of experiences in innovative product design from idea to market. He built his first radio-tape when he was only 10 years old sold it to one of his neighbors on 12. This roller-coaster journey has continued to register 22 patents and several international Gold & Silver medals with one Special Gold medal from International Federation of Invention and Innovation Association (IFIA). One of his inventions, which was sold later, became the best invention of the year in Iran (2007) and he was ranked as the top inventor of the year. His new sustainable startup company (PurCity) offers a brilliant product that can save 1000 of people’s life per year by improving the air quality in cities. He believes that NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE BUT DOES NOT COME EASY. He dedicated his life to hardly work on novel and useful ideas that truly can help change the world the better place.

Designer Interview of Morteza Ghorbani Eftekhar:

DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?

MGE : Well, I am not a designer but a creative person with a lot of new ideas. Long ago one of my best friends passed away due to air pollution, which affected me a lot. 2 years ago I came up with an idea of GapS panels and from then, I am working with a dedicated and experienced team of designers that have the same vision in their life.

DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?

MGE : PurCity is a Danish based company founded on March 2016, aiming to improve the human’s life quality by purifying AIR & WATER in cities. Offering smart, innovative, affordable and high-quality solutions to help change the world to a better place.During the past years, PurCity have developed the product several times and they have made lab test analyses in collaboration with Denmark's Technical University (DTU). Results came out amazing, 3 to 4 times more efficient than what was expected.

DI: What is "design" for you?

MGE : Enabling the urban infrastructures to clean air.

DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?

MGE : Smart, Sustainable and green technologies.

DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?

MGE : GapS is one of my most favorite designs. While it is 100% recyclable, it is smartly designed to purify a large amount of pollution, it doesn't occupy a large space, it is green so doesn't use energy, it is nonflammable, it adds extra thermal and acoustic insulation on buildings, it produces OXYGEN and many more.

DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?

MGE : I have built my first radio tape, when I was a kid "10 years old" and sold it to one of my neighbors when I was 12.

DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?

MGE : Sustainability, Green, Efficient, Creativity

DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?

MGE : humans deserve better.

DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?

MGE : Proud, and successful

DI: What makes a design successful?

MGE : A good leader with a good and dedicated team.

DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?

MGE : Creativity, practicality and costs.

DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?

MGE : Taking their knowledge to help change the world to a better place.

DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?

MGE : Using it in a right way and you can save lives.

DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?

MGE : Few months ago and in Copenhagen. Probably in USA in the next couple of months.

DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?

MGE : I usually get inspired by the troubles that human's life is faced everyday and I most of the times have ideas that can change the way we are thinking and behaving.To feed my creativity, I travel a lot and try to learn from other cultures and people.

DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?

MGE : I live in Denmark. Yes, simplicity and quality while you are trying to be efficient.

DI: How do you work with companies?

MGE : Collaboration or joint venture

DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?

MGE : Look at their background and ambitions on doing every single task in their life.

DI: Can you describe a day in your life?

MGE : Sleep while you're dreaming about the project.Awake while you're working on a project.Have a trip while you are building a greater global network around the project.

DI: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?

MGE : Startup is all about motivation, hard work and moving forward step by step. However, as long as you don't stand up, you won't be able to move forward.Nothing is impossible but it does not come easy.

DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?

MGE : Creativity, Simplicity and efficiency

DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?

MGE : Teamwork and team leading experience

DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?

MGE : Variable, depends on the design.

DI: Who are some of your clients?

MGE : JCDecaux, Totrend Group etc.

DI: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?

MGE : We are constructing an industrial park in Shanghai-China with the aim of purifying the and and water waste management with a Chinese partner.
