We, as the Designer Interviews ("DI") had the distinct pleasure and opportunity to interview award-winning, most creative and innovative Valeria Romanova ("VR").
Graduated from the British Higher school of Design (Russia/ Moscow) under the program "Industrial design" in 2016. During the studies she developed projects for: SEAT, HTC, Oltri (official representative of Philips AVENT), worked in the interior design Studio "Enjoy home". In the design Valeria appreciates minimalism and focuses all attention on the interaction of the user with the object. She is passionate about learning new things, ready to work in any field and get an unexpected result.

Designer Interview of Valeria Romanova:
DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
VR : My way of becoming a designer began at the age of 10. At that age I realized that I wanted to become an Product Designer. After school, I started to gradually move towards my goal. During the studies I developed projects for some companies, after a few summer placements I began working in one of the leading studios. In addition to my main work, I try to promote my projects and participate in competitions.
DI: What is "design" for you?
VR : For me "design" is something that meets the needs of users, something that can solve a problem, and also it is something that does not forget about aesthetics.
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
VR : I do not have anything suitable for the description of "favorite", as I prefer not to limit myself and work with any materials, platforms and technologies.
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
VR : I don't have any specific moment, because creative insight can happen at any time.
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
VR : First of all, I take into account the needs of the user, then I focus on the aesthetic part of the project.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
VR : Inspiration, concentration, desire to achieve the goal.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
VR : Incredible satisfaction, pride and expectation for comments and reactions of users.
DI: What makes a design successful?
VR : Understanding the audience and the problems to be solved.
DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
VR : By how created project meets the required goal.
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
VR : I think it is an understanding of what you are doing and why, only in this case there will be development and progress for society and environment.
DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
VR : Last was SaloneSatellite WorldWide, Moscow, 2016, the next will be also in Moscow, at Mars gallery.
DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
VR : I would say "No unnecessary moves".
DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
VR : I live in Russia, in Moscow, but I do not feel that this fact influenced my works, except that my country Product Design is at the beginning of its development and there is need to work quite a lot to reach some result.
