We, as the Designer Interviews ("DI") had the distinct pleasure and opportunity to interview award-winning, most creative and innovative Felipe Jacoto ("FJ").
Creative by nature and involved with design since the age of 13, today Felipe dedicates his greatest energies in the universe of Branding and Branding. Renowned for developing brands with systematic and modular languages (Grid + Fibonacci), it is highlighted for developing projects outside Brazil and managing as its Art Director its agency located in the interior of São Paulo (Vinhedo). And in its project agenda, it also allows time for social projects within design, in order to make people's lives more practical, simple and minimalist.

DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
FJ : My involvement with the designer was through screen printing, I fell in love with stickers and visual communication. My wish was always to reproduce sticker of surf brands to paste or give away friends.
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
FJ : We are a communications agency specializing in website creation, branding, social media positioning and management, print media creation and execution, monthly SEO installation and maintenance, project planning and organic search tracking on Google. A team of Fluidators building and executing great ideas!
DI: What is "design" for you?
FJ : Solve problems of usability, accessibility or visual aesthetics.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
FJ : My passion in particular is to develop brands and symbols.
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
FJ : My favorite drawing project is the A'Design Award-winning project this year.
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
FJ : In particular, it was a meticulous design of Fluix Comunicação's own brand. (www.fluix.com.br)
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
FJ : Freehand drawings, and after the maturing of ideas carry my ideas to digital tools.
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
FJ : The most productive and creative moment in my development is in the night and dawn period.
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
FJ : In developing and creating the company brand
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
FJ : Satisfaction and personal and professional fulfillment. A feeling that does not fit inside me.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
FJ : A feeling of being able to help and leverage companies and projects.
DI: What makes a design successful?
FJ : Solve problems and optimize processes.
DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
FJ : What is primary is the usability of the project and whether it is simple and effective.
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
FJ : I believe it is making the world simpler and more practical, linked to self-sustainability and economic.
DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
FJ : The evolution of design is clear and fundamental in the 21st century, the future of design in my opinion is doing a lot with little and thus we have more time for our personal life.
DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
FJ : I've never held exhibitions. But I'm planning to hold one at the end of 2018.
DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
FJ : My inspiration for design is the street art of São Paulo (Grafitte and Pixação), where I feed on creativity and visual elements that help me create unique and differentiated images within the design.
DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
FJ : I believe my style is a minimalist visual language that exploits the simplicity of visual elements in order to create an identity of easy memorization and exclusivity.
DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
FJ : No doubt influences, because as I commented the street art has become the basis for the results in my creative process and results within the design.
DI: How do you work with companies?
FJ : Work with one-off and punctual projects and monthly supports for brand management and support.
DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
FJ : The best way is to look for a designer who understands the need of the company and buy the idea of the project presented by the company.
DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?
FJ : Every process is carried out based on a lot of research and testing of forms and usability. After this extensive methods we develop solutions that are really usable and simple at the same time.
DI: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
FJ : Notebook, Mobile, Ipad and Pencil digital.
DI: Can you describe a day in your life?
FJ : My day-to-day work at the agency is very flexible and unpredictable, but overall it is based on the creation and management of digital media. In the morning I work in brand development and in the afternoon in media management. In the evening I dedicate myself to this
DI: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
FJ : My biggest advice is that at the beginning of the journey do not limit themselves to the financial value of the project, that many studies and projects are done for family, friends... To create a broad experience and professional portfolio.
DI: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
FJ : The positive is working with a creative and charming universe, the negative is the lack of appreciation of the design market.
DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?
FJ : A thorough research process to produce something genuine and original.
DI: What skills are most important for a designer?
FJ : Think outside the box and proactivity.
DI: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
FJ : Complete Adobe package and all universe of the internet that allows us a personalized and punctual search according to the project. Books, fonts and inspiration are numerous and are indispensable.
DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
FJ : It can be time consuming, but it can also be practical. My time is managed according to the complexity of the project.
DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
FJ : From 1 to 3 months depending on the complexity of the project.
DI: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
FJ : Felipe where do you take your ideas and inspirations?
DI: What was your most important job experience?
FJ : It was a brand that I developed for the cosmetics market in Brazil.
DI: Who are some of your clients?
FJ : BMW, DHL, SCALA, YOURSELF among others
DI: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
FJ : I am passionate about brand development and visual identity, because I believe that a brand needs to be able to convey its verbal values in a visual way.
DI: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
FJ : My future plans are to take my works out of Brazil and generate content for designer and entrepreneur on YouTube or TV.
DI: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
FJ : The two situations happen here in the agency, it depends on the project and the client.
DI: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
FJ : I am currently participating in a TV program in the interior of São Paulo. In this program will be realized the transformation of environments and the brand of the companies.
