DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
HUIZE/MA : At first I didn't think I would become an interior designer, but when I didn't touch this line, I was already interested in designing the industry and I thought the designer was a very meaningful career. By chance, I picked up the brush. At that moment, I had a strong passion for design, and I had a lot of novel ideas about space. Slowly, design developed into my own business. I often remind myself to cherish and learn to become a more valuable designer.
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
HUIZE/MA : In 2012, I established Ma Yiping Design Office (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd., focusing on interior design in high-end space. Today, we have established the MYP Design Firm brand, which provides high-quality interior, furnishings and related services for real estate projects and high-end people, including model houses, sales offices, boutique hotels, private clubs, office buildings, high-end residences. And other projects. We guarantee that every product is a new creation, and every piece of work is a work of heart.
DI: What is "design" for you?
HUIZE/MA : “New Creation. MYP. Heart” is the overall philosophy of our MYP design firm. Whether it is for design or customer treatment, we are committed to doing the best design and the best service we believe can be provided. Any designer or team that does not have the ability to innovate and does not have the capital to retreat is destined to be thrown into the long river of time. If you don't use your heart to do the design and set your position for the customer, it will not go a long way. We will be in this industry for the rest of our lives, we will not.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
HUIZE/MA : To say like, I think I like the design of new elements. Every time I see the international master designer's work, I will be very excited and very serious to look at the research. I can always see some good designs that can be borrowed, and occasionally bring me some new design ideas. There is no such thing as a favorite project. When I see every work in the past, I will feel that it is not good enough. I will assume that I will design it today. Maybe I will do it. If I do, there will be some new ones. The idea came out.
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
HUIZE/MA : There is no such thing as a favorite. I usually pay attention to different fields of design, such as industrial design, fashion design, and even advertising design. I think the good thing is the same, but it is presented on different things. Just seeing the design you like, you will study it a lot.
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
HUIZE/MA : The brand concept is my first thought. When I set up the brand of MYP Design Office, I thought about how to design, how to serve customers to the greatest extent. Of course, this is also a long-term need to maintain. thing.
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
HUIZE/MA : I like some design, creative, and connotative materials because they give space more possibilities.
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
HUIZE/MA : A peaceful environment, quiet inner heart, can bring me the most thought and more creativity.
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
HUIZE/MA : The positioning of the project itself, the budget, and the operational attitude of Party A. These often determine whether a project can ultimately be perfectly integrated with our design team to create an optimal design.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
HUIZE/MA : When you encounter a good project, you will cherish it very much. Of course, when you don’t come up with your own strength, you will feel depressed and self-criticism.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
HUIZE/MA : Excited, moved, grateful. I feel that all efforts are worthwhile, thanks to Party A, the team, and their persistence.
DI: What makes a design successful?
HUIZE/MA : Teams with an international vision, rich design experience, meticulous service, rich supplier resources, effective cost control, and creativity are all advantages of MYP DESIGN and some of the reasons why we have today's achievements.
DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
HUIZE/MA : Whether the design conforms to the positioning of the project itself, whether the customer's interests are fully guaranteed, whether the design details reflect the strength of the designer or the design team, whether the design is original or novel.
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
HUIZE/MA : Every design made can bring a certain positive impact to the society, actively guide people to objective consumption, and experience a more meaningful lifestyle brought by design. The materials are environmentally friendly and can be sustainable and reused. It is everyone's responsibility to protect the environment. This is not just for designers.
DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
HUIZE/MA : The original design is endless, and it has always been in the process of creation and development. The future of design is also the continuous reform of people's life, constantly re-creating, in line with the expectations of the people of today, and bring them more practical needs, design is still inseparable from people, can not be separated from society, can not be separated from space.
DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
HUIZE/MA : There is no exhibition for the time being.
DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
HUIZE/MA : From the various details of life, books, travel, communication, and even peer-to-peer works, etc., can inspire my inspiration. Usually I pay great attention to the cultivation of self-art creation. Professional skills are constantly needed to be improved. Design comes from life, comes from a variety of experiences, and I can cherish the ways to improve.
DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
HUIZE/MA : Modern and new Chinese style that conforms to the times. I will explore different styles based on the project's local environment, usage needs, and the background of the times. The main feature is that it has a cultural nature. For example, the Lingnan area will join some Lingnan culture, and the Jiangnan area will add some Jiangnan culture. And these cultures, we will go deep into understanding, analysis, and then reflect, not just a description. The design method is mainly through the interpretation of local culture, which is also the most important point.
DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
HUIZE/MA : I am Chinese, and China's culture is profound and profound, and it has a lot of influence on me and even every Chinese designer. In my design, no matter what style, I will eventually do some oriental freehand, because our project is designed for the people of China, and can not be separated from Chinese culture and oriental feelings. I don't think there are any shortcomings, but the style and hobbies of each designer are not the same.
DI: How do you work with companies?
HUIZE/MA : I am the founder and creative director of MYP design, and I am the majority of the company's design projects. Of course, we also have many excellent designers. We divide the project according to the project. I will follow up each project and have a project leader. Follow up on the details of the project, and then equip the necessary drafters, assistants, etc.
DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
HUIZE/MA : A good designer has a certain degree of design expertise, has a heart that never stops, is extremely delicate, and can see the farthest and most meticulous place.
DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?
HUIZE/MA : After determining that the project needs our design, we will divide the plan concept phase, the plan phase, the deepening phase, the construction drawing phase, the execution phase and the settlement phase.
DI: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
HUIZE/MA : A chair designed by myself, a table lamp that the team members brought back to Italy, a very special log stool, a portrait of self-painting, and a mini bookcase that can be moved around.
DI: Can you describe a day in your life?
HUIZE/MA : In fact, every day I am very ordinary, I work most of the time, usually with my family at night.
DI: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
HUIZE/MA : Persevere in persistence, learn to be calm and persistent, and you will certainly get a lot of surprises.
DI: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
HUIZE/MA : Learn to appreciate a lot of beautiful things with artistic eyes, and experience the various tastes of life from different angles of ordinary people. Negative words, I feel that good design is a process of constant change, sometimes day and night, there will be some consumption of the body, not good for health. But if you are busy, you still need to make time to go to the gym.
DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?
HUIZE/MA : Creativity and originality.
DI: What skills are most important for a designer?
HUIZE/MA : Find. Learn to look at the design with a discovery.
DI: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
HUIZE/MA : That's too much, the software that the design needs to have is configured, 3dsmax, AutoCAD, photoshop, sketch master, corldrow, etc. Of course, it also needs a certain high configuration to improve work efficiency. I have a lot of books on design, these are my treasures, good design often stimulates me more inspiration. In addition, travel is also a very good way to progress.
DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
HUIZE/MA : Prioritize, urgently important projects often have to be processed first, and then to allocate other work time. If you are busy, I will arrange for a reasonable time. I will leave the last time for books and sleep.
DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
HUIZE/MA : It depends on the project. The landing time of the project often determines how long the design can last. If the time is sufficient, you can make more trials.
DI: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
HUIZE/MA : Wow, this is so cool, how did you think of it? I often like to chat with creative people and discover the source of their inspiration.
DI: What was your most important job experience?
HUIZE/MA : Every job is very important to me. I teach you different things at different stages. I am very grateful to everyone who has helped me at work.
