Pheren Soepadhi began her professional career as a professional photographer and an art director. She has received four awards for her outstanding achievements in fashion and photography. Her dreamy collection mostly inspired by nature, architecture and the interior design of the Royal Palace. Lace, crystals, tulle dominate all of her collections.

Designer Interview of Pheren Couture:

DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?

PC : I began my professional career as a professional fashion photographer, art director for music videos and short films. I knew I've always have passion for fashion, so after I had my BA in Multimedia Arts, I took Fashion Design classes for one year just to learn all the basic.

DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?

PC : Pheren Couture is a Hollywood based clothing and accessories line. Pheren Couture's collection has been featured in leading publications such as Harper's Bazaar and Elle and had the opportunity to create custom looks for a number of high profile clients in the music industry.

DI: When do you feel the most creative?

PC : I'm a night owl, and there is always a lot of ideas during the night when no one is surrounding or the sounds of busy city life.

DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?

PC : My dreamy collection are mostly inspired by nature, architecture and the interior design of the Royal Palace.

DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?

PC : I would say my design style is more Victorian style but with a dark touch.

DI: Can you describe a day in your life?

PC : I normally get up pretty early , having black coffee while checking e-mails and online orders , and straight to my work desk to create things

DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?

PC : Well, this is my first year being a full-time designer. Luckily I'm the type of person who always plan ahead of time so I never have any problems with that. I work 7 days a week , 10 - 12 hours a day.

DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?

PC : Well, it really depends. For a gown with a lot of beading, normally it takes 150 - 180 hours.

DI: Who are some of your clients?

PC : Diplomats , Musicians, Photographers , Actors

DI: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?

PC : I enjoy creating haute couture or things that are complicated and take a while to execute. I love the challenge.

DI: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?

PC : Yes, currently I am working on Ready-to-Wear , more basic but it will still have the dark glamour look with small details on some parts. My other project is handbag design and I use traditional Indonesian fabric.
