We, as the Designer Interviews ("DI") had the distinct pleasure and opportunity to interview award-winning, most creative and innovative Nikolaos Sgouros ("NS").
The architectural firm “N. Sgouros & Associates Architects” has been operating in Thessaloniki, Greece since 1991 and is consisted of architects and interior designers. The architectural firm focuses on the study of high-end hotels, offices, blocks of flats, private residences and interior spaces. An integrated architecture proposal as well as the full completion of the project are the firm`s main aim. A large number of these projects have been presented in architectural magazines and books

DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
NS : I have always wanted to become an architect since I was young. The joy of creation and the materialization of my vision resulted in my final decision.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
NS : Whatever is inspiring
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
NS : The one that was awarded at A' Design Award Competition.
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
NS : When I communicate with creative people.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
NS : The joy of creation and the satisfaction that my project became tangible.
DI: What makes a design successful?
NS : The original concept.
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
NS : To match creation with environmetally friendly solutions.
DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
NS : Six years ago on my 20th office anniversary.
DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
NS : Minimal and contemporary adapted to the local environment.
DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
NS : Thessaloniki Greece. I sometimes get inspired by cultural heritage as far as I can embody some cultural elements to my actual design.
DI: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
NS : The fireplace, the dining table, and the art objects.
DI: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
NS : To be stable to their actual ideas and to have a consitency concerning the realization of their projects.
DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?
NS : To create an original concept.
DI: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
NS : Is it feasible?
DI: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
NS : As a team.
DI: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
NS : A hotel, a private house and a new office building.
