MUJIE Design With the wood material as the core, play the creativity in the space. “M.” means wood, which is the foundation of architecture and space. “J.” means Intermediary, which is the link between dream and reality. 【Four-dimensional space】 A house is not a home. Without temperature, the building is just a hard structure. It wouldn’t be a home. Interior design is the same principle. Our aims, Create the “breadth” of space. Study the “dimension” of structure. Explore the “gradation” of aesthetics. Warm the “temperature” of home. We are designers from various backgrounds and honed in different environment. We uphold the same concept but inspire our creativity in this studio. We pursue the self transcendence to satisfy all kinds of design style. Inspired by needs of user, we make the common daily living areas as signature surroundings. Guided by user’s aspirations, we reinvent the experience of space. DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
MDCMDC : I graduated from Tainan University of Technology and majored in interior design. Now I am a graduate student in the department of Visual Communication Design at Kun Shan University. I would like to make my design more diverse by learning different design fields. The renovation of the old space left me with good memories. Through planning and renovation, I hope to create more space for people to have better space experience and continue the memory of the old space. When I was a university student, I hoped that I could become an excellent designer in the future and make our social environment better through my profession.
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
MDCMDC : MUJIE Design Co.,Ltd. is composed of various background designers. We are honed in different environment but uphold the same concept. We pursue the self-transcendence to fulfill all kinds of design style. Inspired by the need of clients, we reinvent the experience of space.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
MDCMDC : I like designing “Old house renovation” related works. It can utilize the space of the old house again and deliver a new experience.
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
MDCMDC : I like to apply the most original raw material and combine with new techniques to create new looks and styles.
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
MDCMDC : I am most creative when traveling, because I am always full of imagination during my journey.
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
MDCMDC : I am more focused on the interaction between people and space during designing.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
MDCMDC : After my design is realized, I feel that I have fulfilled a mission and have a great sense of achievement.
DI: What makes a design successful?
MDCMDC : In my own opinion, the spirit of perseverance and doing the right thing are the key to make a design successful.
DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
MDCMDC : I always consider safety and appearance first.
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
MDCMDC : Designers should be responsible for making this space more beautiful through professional planning, improving everyone's aesthetics of living, and preserving and renovating instead of destruction.
DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
MDCMDC : My design inspiration usually comes from the building itself. We respect it, listen to it and interact with it, the structure and material applications of the building bring us inspiration.
DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
MDCMDC : The culture heritage of the country has a great influence on my design. I live in Tainan, Taiwan. Tainan is the most ancient city in Taiwan and is full of cultural heritage. Because of its long history, the streets in Tainan are unordered and inconsistent in style, while it is also diverse and full of stories, I attempt to find my belonging order in this city.
DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?
MDCMDC : I usually begin with measuring the building itself and investigating the surrounding environment. And then, I study the layout and configuration of flow, and draw a sketch. After that, I start to create the design layout drawing and the construction drawing. Once the design is complete, the design will be executed.
DI: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
MDCMDC : Stay true to the mission, take people as the foremost.
DI: What skills are most important for a designer?
MDCMDC : For my point of view, it is very important for designers to keep the sensitivity and observation to aesthetics.
DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
MDCMDC : I manage my time by teamwork. Collaboration and appropriate division of labor can speed up the execution of work.
DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
MDCMDC : It usually takes about half a year from design to completion.
DI: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
MDCMDC : I like designing “Old house renovation” related works. It can utilize the space of the old house again and deliver a new experience.
DI: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
MDCMDC : I would like to make the team more diverse and integrate various design fields and industries into the work.
DI: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
MDCMDC : I work with my team.
