UXDA : At UXDA, our passion for design stems from a desire to create user-centric digital experiences that empower financial institutions and their customers. Each team member’s journey into design is unique, yet we all share a common drive to redefine how people interact with financial products.
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
UXDA : UXDA is a leading Financial UX Design Agency specializing in creating transformative user experiences for banking, FinTech, and financial services. We’ve crafted more than 150 financial products in 37 countries, setting industry standards with our award-winning Digital Experience Branding framework.
DI: What is "design" for you?
UXDA : Design, for us, is a transformative tool that bridges the gap between user expectations and business goals. It’s about crafting experiences that are not just functional but also emotionally engaging, resonating with users on a deeper level. As articulated in our Dopamine Banking approach, we believe design should spark positive emotions, turning financial interactions into delightful and memorable moments.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
UXDA : We excel in designing innovative digital financial products that simplify complex processes, such as banking apps, payment platforms, and investment tools. Projects that make a meaningful impact on people’s daily lives inspire us the most.
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
UXDA : Our favorite designs include those built using our “Dopamine Banking” approach, where we combine functionality with emotion to create financial experiences users truly enjoy, such as a customer-friendly banking app that increased customer engagement by 40%. Along with all the Future Financial Experience concepts created by our team—because there are no limits when the team gives 100%—we have designed innovative solutions such as a banking app for kids, la banking superapp, and AI-powered spatial banking.
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
UXDA : One of our earliest projects was a digital banking platform redesign, where we reimagined the entire customer journey, making it seamless, engaging, and human-centric.
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
UXDA : We primarily work with digital tools like Figma for prototyping and design.
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
UXDA : Our creativity thrives when solving challenging design problems that require innovative approaches, especially during collaborative brainstorming sessions with our team.
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
UXDA : Our focus lies in creating a balance between functionality and emotional engagement. Drawing inspiration from outside the finance industry, we aim to design products that are not only intuitive but also provide a sense of delight and satisfaction. The key is to integrate empathy into every step, from user research to prototyping, ensuring the final product addresses real needs while evoking positive emotions.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
UXDA : Designing for financial experiences is both challenging and exhilarating. There’s a deep sense of fulfillment when we know our work helps financial brands deliver more humanized services. The excitement comes from pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, while the reward lies in seeing users’ satisfaction and trust grow through the solutions we create.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
UXDA : Seeing our designs implemented and achieving measurable success for our clients brings immense pride and satisfaction.
DI: What makes a design successful?
UXDA : A successful design is one that seamlessly integrates user needs, business objectives, and innovative solutions. In financial services, success also means creating trust, reducing complexity, and delivering experiences that users choose repeatedly. The emotional connection between a user and a product is often the ultimate measure of a design’s success.
DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
UXDA : We evaluate usability, emotional impact, how it solves user problems, how it contributes to the brand, and whether the design fulfills the purpose it was created for.
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
UXDA : Designers must create solutions that are inclusive, ethical, and sustainable, ensuring long-term value for society.
DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
UXDA : The design field is evolving towards experience-driven innovation, where the focus is on creating emotional value alongside functional solutions. The future lies in using technologies like AI and immersive interfaces to craft hyper-personalized experiences. In finance, this translates to solutions like spatial banking and superapps that adapt to user needs in real-time.
DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
UXDA : Our “exhibitions” are primarily digital, such as showcasing our work through case studies and industry conferences.
DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
UXDA : Our inspiration comes from human emotions, user behaviors, and the desire to simplify life’s complexities. Our inspiration is enriched by a broader perspective, as financial products are often purely functional. However, when we think globally, what truly inspires people and brings happiness? Positive emotions. That’s why we look beyond the finance industry, drawing inspiration from the best in other sectors to infuse our work with innovative and fresh ideas.
DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
UXDA : Our design style is rooted in human-centric innovation, combining simplicity with emotional resonance. We explore solutions that break the monotony of functional products, delivering designs that inspire and delight. This approach, as seen in our Dopamine Design philosophy, ensures that every product we create leaves a lasting impression.
DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
UXDA : We are a global agency, but our Latvian roots bring a strong emphasis on precision and detail to our work.
DI: How do you work with companies?
UXDA : We partner with financial institutions to align their vision with our UX expertise, ensuring collaboration at every step of the design process.
DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
UXDA : Companies should provide clear objectives, trust the design process, and maintain open communication.
DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?
UXDA : Our design process is rooted in a deep understanding of the brand, user and their emotional and functional needs. We begin with research to uncover pain points, goals, and behaviors. This is followed by conceptualization, where we generate ideas that align with business goals and user insights. Prototyping and iterative testing ensure our designs are both functional and delightful. A key element of our process is the UXDA Framework, which combines design thinking with our Dopamine Design philosophy to create emotionally engaging, innovative financial experiences.
DI: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
UXDA : Our team members admire minimalist furniture, ergonomic tools, and well-designed digital interfaces.
DI: Can you describe a day in your life?
UXDA : A typical day involves collaboration, ideation, testing, and continuous learning to deliver exceptional designs.
DI: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
UXDA : - Empathy is your greatest tool. Understand your users deeply before starting any design work. - Stay curious. Draw inspiration from diverse industries and life experiences. - Focus on impact. Always design with the end-user and long-term value in mind. - Learn from every challenge. Failures are often the best teachers for innovation. - Collaborate effectively. Great designs are rarely created in isolation. Seek feedback and grow together.
DI: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
UXDA : Positives: Creativity, challenges, impact, and fulfillment. Negatives: Deadlines and balancing client expectations.
DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?
UXDA : Our golden rule is: "Design with empathy, deliver with clarity." Empathy ensures we deeply understand the user’s needs and emotions, while clarity guarantees that the solution we create is intuitive, accessible, and impactful. DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
UXDA : We prioritize tasks, set milestones, and maintain clear communication.
DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
UXDA : Financial services is a complex industry, so timescales can vary widely, from a small fintech that takes a month or two to create a full product vision, to a full digital banking ecosystem that includes all digital channels and digital communication experiences that takes a year and needs to continue to evolve.
DI: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
UXDA : One of the most frequently asked questions we encounter is: "How do you balance innovation with user-friendliness?" Our answer lies in our approach: we prioritize the user experience by ensuring that innovation serves a purpose. Every feature or element we add must enhance usability and emotional engagement, not detract from it. This balance is achieved by extensive testing, feedback, and aligning with user expectations.
DI: What was your most important job experience?
UXDA : One of our most significant and transformative job experiences is our ongoing collaboration with Emirates NBD, one of the largest financial institutions in the Middle East.
