We, as the Designer Interviews ("DI") had the distinct pleasure and opportunity to interview award-winning, most creative and innovative Reham Ezzeldin ("RE").

DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
RE : I have always wanted to be an architect since I was six. I used to draw houses.
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
RE : We are a design studio that specializes in various design services.
DI: What is "design" for you?
RE : Design is an art of life that shapes and influences our behavior. It is a vise versa relationship between human activities and space design.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
RE : Interior design spaces since it is the living space where most of us spend their time in. Thus I believe it is the most important to design it efficiently.
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
RE : A simple modern comfy summer house where you can provide the users with maximum leisure and comfort.
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
RE : Plans of residential houses
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
RE : Natural materials mostly wood since it gives a cozy atmosphere and creates a cozy one.
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
RE : At the start of any new project where I get more challenged to create a new concept
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
RE : Functional spaces and creating aesthetic ones
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
RE : Creativity Vs Challenge Vs Innovative feelings
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
RE : Happiness when I reach my goal of design
DI: What makes a design successful?
RE : Being to able to reach all the client requirements while creating a creative design
DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
RE : If it fulfills all the functions required
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
RE : Designing sustainable and conserving energy design
DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
RE : There is a high challenge now in the design field due to the exposure to many design ideas worldwide. I believe the upcoming design will aim to reach a high energy efficient ones.
DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
RE : I usually get inspired from new design ideas represented. I try to reach out different ideas and integrate them together to be more creative. I love to search for inspirations from different designers .
DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
RE : I do not work with a specific style. It depends on the clients requirements. We do design classic, contemporary and modern designs. But to be clear , I prefer contemporary style since it integrates between elegance and modernism.
DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
RE : I live in Egypt. Definitely here in Egypt we have a unique heritage which affects our design, in addition to the hot weather that affects our design .
DI: How do you work with companies?
RE : Getting a design brief to collect all data required
DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
RE : Companies shall specify their goals of the required design. In other words what is the purpose of their required project, is it for leisure, work environment, home. Accordingly they can select the designer based on his experience .
DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?
RE : First we start by creating a mood board of the design ideas and color palette according the selected style. Then we start making some sketches to reach the desired concept. After this we build up 3d models of our designs to reach the final look of the design. Finally we produce the working drawings.
DI: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
RE : Ceiling, flooring, doors, entrances and furniture items.
DI: Can you describe a day in your life?
RE : Waking up early so I can freshly make new design concepts and sketches. Following up on going projects and sites. Also, brainstorming with my team the new design ideas.
DI: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
RE : Design with passion and love.Try to be innovating and hard workerDo not look for money at first, try to learn and get experience
DI: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
RE : Being a designer requires being creative and being always exposed to new ideas. On the other side it is very stressful as it is always challenging to reach a very high creative level.
DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?
RE : Form follows function. I like to use the golden ratio proportions since it creates high energy spaces.
DI: What skills are most important for a designer?
RE : Being able to sketch instant ideas and develop them.
DI: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
RE : Sketching is the main design tool I use. Then after reaching the ideas and elaborating it, we switch to software programs .i.e. auto cad, Photoshop and 3d max programs.
DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
RE : I believe it is impossible to be able to manage your design time. It is a long process that never stops.
DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
RE : It depends on the scale and details of the project. It may vary also . Sometimes you can get hot by the idea from the beginning and sometimes it takes time.
DI: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
RE : All of clients can not imagine and understand the designed drawings. So it is a hard task to be able to explain to them the design and convince them that it will be amazing.
DI: What was your most important job experience?
RE : Designing a residential compound prototype which should suit different users who have different requirements and taste.
DI: Who are some of your clients?
RE : My clients basically vary from individual persons to companies. It depends
DI: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
RE : I enjoy the design phase and its challenge to create innovative designs that can be realistic ones.
DI: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
RE : Expanding my design work and creating a furniture line of my own.
DI: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
RE : I have a design team at my own office. I always like to give the opportunity to young designers to share their design ideas and propose their. This is great to work as a team.
DI: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
RE : I am working now on the interior and architecture buildings of a private social club. Hopefully, it will be amazing.
