We, as the Designer Interviews ("DI") had the distinct pleasure and opportunity to interview award-winning, most creative and innovative Ting-Hsiang Chen ("TC").
Chen Ting-Hsiang, a Taiwanese new generation wizard designer, was born in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan in 1996. He chose to enter the Department of Creative Product Design Of NTUST, and then continued to study the Institute of Interior Design. In 2016, he established a painter design office and began to undertake The design case has been dominated by interior design, covering furniture, products, machinery, and graphic design.

DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
TC : I was very interested in creation since I was a child. My father is an excellent interior designer. I have enjoyed his works, paintings and collections of cars and art since I was a child. After that, I was very lucky to enter Taichung. The School of Design, University of Science and Technology, studied products and interior design, so I became a designer without knowing it.
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
TC : My personal design office was established in 2016. When I was in college, I started to undertake design projects, mainly for indoor and furniture design, and occasionally received the design of plane and machinery.
DI: What is "design" for you?
TC : The design changed my life so that I saw it, so the products I used became more beautiful, more convenient, and designed to be human.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
TC : I really like it:Rolls-Royce ,Lounge Chair, i Phone
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
TC : I like the design that suits human nature. The design I like is a design that really connects with people and lets you create a relationship. When you think it belongs to your life, you will want to take care of it and live with it. Beside them, even to the next generation, these are the clear values of good design.
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
TC : The owner gave me a floor plan manuscript and asked me to help him with what he wanted. It was a drink shop.
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
TC : The Pinterest design platform has a lot of excellent design works, which can provide us with ideas for viewing or design. There are also designer contact materials or websites, which can be easily exchanged.
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
TC : I usually have a lot of inspiration before I go to sleep at night or when I visit the exhibition.
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
TC : Knowledge is limited, but imagination is infinite, so my concern is how to make things that I have designed can be realized by today's technology. If today's technology cannot be realized, I will present it in a conceptual way.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
TC : I often feel very fortunate in designing.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
TC : When my design is implemented, I will be very touched and very fulfilled.
DI: What makes a design successful?
TC : Very particular about a design work, with a sacred dissatisfaction, and your design will succeed.
DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
TC : It is a difficult question to say what is good design what is bad design.For me this kid of distinction.It is an idea about the object itself.Kinf of connecting to a certain culture that the porducts have giving it a full functionality but giving it also beauty.
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
TC : The designer is a problem solver who solves complex problems. These problems may be business, budget, construction problems, or even sensible problems. When we encounter these problems, we are in the process of solving the problems. Look for a comprehensive solution to the creation.
DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
TC : The design field is a multi-dimensional field, and it can be realized in the future as long as it can express its own ideas.
DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
TC : My last exhibition was at the Young Designers' Exhibition. The next time I won this award, the symphony number 7 was exhibited in Italy.
DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
TC : My design is inspired by observing anything from anywhere in the world, any time, and when the frequency is right, it will produce new ideas.
DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
TC : I don't have a special design style, see what the customer needs, or what special ideas I have in the moment.
DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
TC : I am a Taiwanese. Taiwan has been colonized by China, Japan, Britain, and the Netherlands. It has also left traces of history in many countries. The culture of each country is preserved in this land of Taiwan. Therefore, we Taiwanese can appreciate a lot. The culture of Yuan can also affect some of my views or ideas. Taiwan is an island country. Unlike some countries with a long history, there are mature production and realization technologies. Therefore, some works can be invited to foreign countries for production.
DI: How do you work with companies?
TC : I worked with various companies in the way of undertaking design projects, including the company, furniture, plane, mechanical design company package design case let me play.
DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
TC : Choose someone who has a creative design.
DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?
TC : When I have a new idea, I will first construct it with my imagination in my mind, and make some improvements in my mind. When I can show my design in my mind, I will Draw the actual product.
DI: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?

DI: Can you describe a day in your life?
TC : In the morning, I will go to the design school to exchange knowledge with my classmates and professors. If there are no cases at the time after school, I will go online to see some design-related creative videos or some listening speeches.
DI: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
TC : Do what you feel right, do what you feel is right, and participate in design-related activities to communicate with a wide range of artists, designers, and architects.
DI: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
TC : Designers are not bound by the world.
DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?
TC : I think it is very important to match the humanity and the visual ratio. The design must have a bright spot to make people want to see more and can't help but want to use the final purchase.
DI: What skills are most important for a designer?
TC : It is very important for designers to imagine, express their discourse and execute.
DI: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
TC : I used my imagination, then drawn it with a pen and paper, and then used computer software to constrain the appropriate size and line.The software I often use is: 3DS MAX, Illustrator, Photoshop
DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
TC : I don't have special management time during design, but I have to punctually stipulate the time with the partner when I want to produce, and solve the problem as soon as the re-production encounters the problem, so that I don't waste both time and money.
DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
TC : Not necessarily, sometimes it takes a long time to discuss or design changes to perform the next step, but sometimes it feels right to implement the design very quickly.
DI: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
TC : The common problem is the product that can be designed, whether it can be used, the safety of use, and whether the manufacturer is willing to cooperate in production.
DI: What was your most important job experience?
TC : I have been exposed to a variety of production realization methods, and I will be able to find a suitable technology for production in the future.

TC : Construction company, furniture company, interior design company, machinery company
DI: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
TC : I like the design that is both human and aesthetic, because it not only makes life easier, but also aesthetics.
DI: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
TC : If I have the opportunity in the future, I plan to go abroad to contact different cultures and increase my knowledge.

DI: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
TC : I am currently designing a restaurant chain that will be listed soon. I am especially pleased that people come to the restaurant I designed to dine, not only to enjoy the food, but also to enjoy the atmosphere of creating a meal.
