Designer Interview of Seung woo, Park:

DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?

SWP : I have always enjoyed expressing my thoughts. Drawing has been my dream and my favorite form of expression since I was young. The choices I made in my teenage years have become the belief and driving force behind my work to this day. I love the act of drawing itself. In particular, the painting techniques that allow me to directly express imagined scenes and the digital painting that lets me freely use various colors and expressions each have their own unique charms. These methods provide diverse ways of expression. I enjoy both methods and the act of expression through drawing. One of my dreams is to draw for my entire life. Since it is a profession that brings me happiness, I wanted to become an artist.

DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?

SWP : I established a studio to embark on a new challenge. Named <YOURBOX>, it views everyone's dreams in the form of cubes, each becoming its own space and element. My studio encompasses everything needed in the art genres, including character design, branding, illustration, exhibitions, and planning. There are artists who plan and execute projects together, and we created this studio to move towards our dreams together.

DI: What is "design" for you?

SWP : To me, design is a form of expressing thoughts. It should encapsulate reality and be easily understood without needing explanation. It should be visually appealing, and in the case of products, should provide a high level of satisfaction when used. From the perspective of creating art through design, it is a challenging task yet a process that leads towards happiness. While I often directly translate my imaginative ideas into tangible elements of reality, there are times when I enjoy expressing them metaphorically or in ways that evoke emotions in people. This versatility is one of the pleasures for an artist.

DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?

SWP : My favorite artistic design method involves hiding stories within the artwork. If there's a main story, I enjoy embedding various hidden elements within the piece, hoping that the audience will discover them. This approach is one of my ways of expressing art and a crucial element in my creative process. The power of storytelling is immense. Just like in life, if a piece of art contains narratives about experiences that resonate with everyone, its value becomes truly special.
