Designer Interview of 溫璿婕:
DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
溫璿婕 : For me, curator is a bridge, a medium that connects the audience with the knowledge or feelings of the subject. In curatorial work,I have learned a lot of knowledge that I would not normally take the initiative to contact, because I spend a lot of time studying the information related to the theme of the exhibition every time I curate it. Through this process of data collection and study, I am like a sponge that has been absorbing learning, and I enjoy this process very much. Therefore, curatorial work can be said to be the most satisfying choice in my passed 25 years working life so far.
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
溫璿婕 : Gogodesign is a professional space design team, specialize in cultural and multi-exhibition, retail, boutique store, trade show and special event design. As a professional curating and space developing consultant, we specialize in delivering content through digital media and variety technics. We have broad portfolios of success cases throughout Asia, United States and North Europe. Our team’s values consist in implementing and consolidating client’s and audience's visions and expectation with our curation idea, design inputs, materializing innovative and multi-media development.
DI: What is "design" for you?
溫璿婕 : Design for me is a process, a process of realizing what is in my head. Whenever I have an idea for a theme that can be curated into an exhibition, the design of the space has a prototype in my mind. The design process allows me to realize the imagination in my head, and it often stimulates me.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
溫璿婕 : The moment when the finished design comes into contact with the audience for the first time, if the audience can understand the message behind my design, that is the best moment for me.
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
溫璿婕 : It is difficult to answer this question. In my works of different periods, there are some achievements that I am very moved by myself. For me, the best work may be the next work.
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
溫璿婕 : My first curatorial work was snoopy's first touring exhibition in Taiwan.
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
溫璿婕 : I don't have a particular favorite technique, I'm always designing interactive or expressive techniques that fit the subject and the message I want to convey.
DI: When do you feel the most creative?
溫璿婕 : My inspirations tend to come suddenly, but new ideas are easiest to come up with when visiting museums or watching movies.
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
溫璿婕 : In the process of curatorial design, what I pay most attention to is the "rhythm" of the audience's visit. A good rhythm can make the overall viewing journey smooth and comfortable.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
溫璿婕 : The process of curating design always keeps me excited and forever young. Like elementary school students who look forward to going to school every day.
DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
溫璿婕 : Satisfied.
DI: What makes a design successful?
溫璿婕 : A curatorial design work is successful if it can let more than 50% of the audience understand the idea behind it and receive concepts and knowledge related to the theme, even if there is only one concept.
DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
溫璿婕 : The first glance, is the theme obvious and easy to understand?
