With GIA diamond analyst certificate and years of designer experience, Olivia further ventured her career in London high street jewellery suppliers, absorbing the most exhilarating momentum at the fashion front. As a global trekker, Olivia draws inspiration from extensive travels and integrates these adventures in creative themes. Series of journeys have also urged her to appreciate differences, to cherish legacies and to embrace cultural roots—a decisive step—she was then led back to Taiwan.

DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?

OY : Graduating from MA Jewellery Design at the School of Jewellery in Birmingham, Olivia Yao is known for her elegant design that integrates the tenderness of the East and the innovative spirit of the West. DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?

OY : Infatuated with the splendor of precious stones, Olivia Yao Jewellery is dedicated to original design and fine crafts to most single and sophisticated ornaments that blend contemporary trends and timeless classics. The brand was founded in 2013. Influenced by Art Nouveau, Olivia Yao Jewellery appreciates the natural uniqueness of each and every piece of material, and seeks to uncover the glamour of precious stones with refined artistry. In 2020, OLIVIA YAO JEWELLERY started its own customized series- OLIVIA YAO FINE JEWELLERY SALON. Serving collectors with its unique customized design inspired by individual stories.

DI: What is "design" for you?

OY : To create something to improve life quality.

DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?

OY : Try to see things from different perspectives.

DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?

OY : I don't have all time favorite things.

DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?

OY : Jewellery.

DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?

OY : Silver, wax carving.

DI: When do you feel the most creative?

OY : Afternoon around 3 to 4.

DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?

OY : Multifuctions

DI: What makes a design successful?

OY : Persistence

DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?

OY : It must be beautiful.

DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?

OY : Don't creat junk.

DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?

OY : With AI's help, designers won't need to spend as much time realizing their concepts. However, having innovative thoughts and visions, rather than just drawing and creating, doesn't necessarily make designers' lives easier.

DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?

OY : Taipei 2023, Tokoyo maybe.

DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?

OY : daily life, it comes from the collections of numerous fractal images of daily experience or memories.
