Designer Interview of Zhaocheng He:

DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?

ZH : I started learning painting in high school and studied design for four years in college. After seeing many excellent designers whose works can create value for society, I really want to become a designer.

DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?

ZH : Mida Brand Design was established in 2014, providing brand integration design services for enterprises and institutions, such as packaging design and IP cultural and creative, logo/VI design, brochure and magazine design, cultural wall and navigation design, etc.

DI: What is "design" for you?

ZH : Presenting design through visual means through planning and imagination

DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?

ZH : Consumer goods or cultural and creative products

DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?

ZH : My favorite Sato Koshi and the designed Uniqlo brand image

DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?

ZH : Brand logo design

DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?

ZH : Handdrawn hands-on ability

DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?

ZH : The uniqueness of creativity and subsequent execution.

DI: What makes a design successful?

ZH : The trust of customers and the perfect execution of printing production enable the design to be presented well.

DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?

ZH : Has it addressed the needs of consumers or audiences.

DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?

ZH : Reduce resource waste and enhance product value through design techniques.

DI: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?

ZH : According to the needs of socio-economic development.

DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?

DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?

ZH : The design inspiration comes from an understanding of Sanqi products, and at the same time, ancient Chinese landscape paintings happen to be very similar to the growth environment of Sanqi. I combined the powdered form of Sanqi powder with a dot method.

DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?

ZH : It has both a cultural and fashion sense. Explore the culture behind the product and present it through the expression of dots, lines, and surfaces.

DI: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?

ZH : I live in Chengdu and Shenzhen, China. China has rich cultural heritage, which provides me with rich materials and inspiration for my design and creation.

DI: How do you work with companies?

ZH : I am a partner of the company, providing creative and operational work for the company.

DI: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?

ZH : Have a team spirit and always maintain curiosity and freshness.

DI: Can you talk a little about your design process?

ZH : Sanqi is a traditional Chinese medicine. When we received this project, we analyzed the growth environment and powder phase of Sanqi. Using the form of dots to form the shape of the mountain, this packaging is designed in black and blue, breaking the traditional perception of the industry and making the packaging full of fashion. The packaging of the inner box is arranged and combined to form a landscape painting full of Eastern artistic conception.

DI: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?

DI: Can you describe a day in your life?

ZH : First, hold a project meeting and then start creating the design.

DI: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?

ZH : To have more life experiences, traveling, reading books, and shopping in supermarkets can all bring rewards.

DI: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?

ZH : It is necessary to understand the latest design trends and technologies.

DI: What is your "golden rule" in design?

ZH : Think and see more

DI: What skills are most important for a designer?

ZH : creativity

DI: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?

DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?

ZH : In the early stage, I will conduct project understanding and analysis, spend more time on conceptualization and creativity, and the remaining time on design execution.

DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?

ZH : It depends on the project, usually ranging from 2 to 10 days.

DI: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?

ZH : Have you ever worked on similar projects or designs?

DI: What was your most important job experience?

ZH : After graduating from university, I embarked on the path of design in Shenzhen, the capital of design in China.

DI: Who are some of your clients?

ZH : Our clients include governments, state-owned enterprises, group companies, and private enterprises.

DI: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?

ZH : I like designs that are full of personality changes and interesting.

DI: What are your future plans? What is next for you?

ZH : Participate in more influential competitions and communicate and learn from excellent designers.
