Designer Interview of Irakli Emiridze:

DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?

IE : I had a natural talent for technical and geometric drawing, which naturally led me to architecture.

DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?

IE : I founded Alpha Architecture in 2018, while completing my final year at university, at the age of 21. As a professional architect, my goal from the beginning was to establish a strong architectural firm focused on diverse and innovative projects.

DI: What is "design" for you?

IE : In my opinion, design is a building that harmoniously blends into its intended environment.

DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?

IE : As I already mentioned, my goal from the beginning was to establish a strong architectural firm focused on diverse and innovative projects. I have worked on a wide range of buildings, including skyscrapers, cultural heritage sites, landmarks, residential complexes, hotels, and branded hospitality developments.

DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?

IE : Every design has its own special and unique qualities, but at this moment, the Chess Palace is my favorite architectural project. It’s located in my hometown, Batumi, and represents as a cultural center of my country, Georgia.

DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?

IE : Salibauri Hills was my first project, a residential complex masterplanned on a two-hectare hillside site, designed to integrate with the natural topography.

DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?

IE : It depends on the building’s concept. We don’t have a specific favorite material.

DI: When do you feel the most creative?

IE : I feel most creative during the conceptual design phase, when I’m defining the project's spatial narrative, establishing its identity, and translating abstract ideas into architectural form.

DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?

IE : Each discipline plays a vital role in shaping the overall project design — including architecture, structure, MEP engineering, and visual design — to ensure a comprehensive and well-integrated result. It’s important to give careful attention to each aspect throughout the process.

DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?

IE : Creating something new from nothing is the best feeling. You create a building that will last at least a century.

DI: What makes a design successful?

IE : A design is successful when it balances functionality, aesthetics, and context

DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?

IE : If the building is harmoniously integrated with the environment and suits its surrounding area.

DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?

IE : The key is to achieve harmony between architecture and nature, ensuring the design remains contextually integrated and does not disrupt its surroundings.

DI: How do you work with companies?

IE : My priority is to incorporate rich architectural detail into every project. Each design is tailored to its specific context and the unique needs of both the client and the site. I always consider the character of the location, surroundings, if there is any historical context, I take that into account as well. Also, one of the defining aspects of my approach is creating a unique architectural identity for each development. Our architectural design gives each development distinctive style, and clients appreciate this deeply. We are projecting skyscrapers, cultural heritage sites, residential complexes, hotels, and branded hospitality developments, each requiring different rules and approaches. We deliver complete architectural packages: full plans, technical documentation, construction details, and geological studies. When we hand over a project, it is fully ready for construction, nothing else is needed.

DI: What skills are most important for a designer?

IE : Vision and working ethic, professionalism

DI: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?

IE : That's the inspiration

DI: What was your most important job experience?

IE : When I made development project for my company, which I am building, I even better understood every step and every rule

DI: Who are some of your clients?

IE : Leading Developments as: Alliance, Gumbati Group, Tower Group, Next, Cartu

DI: What are your future plans? What is next for you?

IE : As a professional architect, my goal from the beginning was to establish a strong architectural firm focused on diverse and innovative projects and work globally

DI: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?

IE : I develop design my myself

DI: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?

IE : We have many ongoing projects, and one of my favorites is a food court located in the historic area of Tbilisi. I find it particularly interesting due to its location and aesthetic character.
