Irene Yeung is a Hong Kong based designer and having over 10 years working experience in sheet metalworking industry. She is one of the new emerging designers who can counteract between art, design and manufacturing.

Designer Interview of Oi Lin Irene Yeung:
DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
OLIY : I wanted to be an artist in childhood, and now being "designer+artist" is my dream job.
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
OLIY : Derangedsign is a Hong Kong studio established to deliver some stuffs with minimal designs and crazy ideas.
DI: What is "design" for you?
OLIY : Design is a way to bring creativity and artistry to daily lives. It's also a solution to improve people livings and making a better world.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
OLIY : Metalware
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
OLIY : Ice bucket
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
OLIY : Metal & metalworking
DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
OLIY : The story and message underneath
DI: What makes a design successful?
OLIY : This question leads to another question to me always: How can I make use of my designs to inspire others of treasuring our precious moment of living & working, cultures, the loved ones & our motherland?
DI: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
OLIY : Bring social impact and contribute to the community.
DI: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
OLIY : Deranged & Minimal
DI: What skills are most important for a designer?
OLIY : Observation + Creativity.
DI: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
OLIY : Hand-drawing, Solidworks, Photoshop & Illustrator, etc.
DI: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
OLIY : I love OT and mid-night working is very productive.
DI: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
OLIY : It takes about 2 - 6 weeks.
DI: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
OLIY : I would like to cooperate with NGOs or with corporations who got the similar thoughts as mine, with an aim to contribute to the community and do something for our world with our ideas and skills of design.
DI: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
OLIY : I come up ideas & develop the designs on my own.
